I'm having trouble understanding this port role, can anyone make an example of it?
A diagram in packet tracer will be very appreciated, I'm trying to do it but I only manage to have port in the alternate role.
Thanks.

A alternate port is a blocking port that provides an alternate path to the root bridge through a different network segment. A backup port is a blocking port that is connected to the same network segment as a designated port or a root port and is a backup since it doesn't change the physical path to the root bridge.
