No luck with recruiters

I've probably spoken to 100 or so recruiters over the past 3 months. I've interviewed with maybe a dozen of them but they've never led to interviews with the company.

While some are straightforward with me and say we need more years of experience or we don't think you are a good fit. Many more tell me it seems like a good fit and submit my resume to the company. Then I never hear from them again, even after I contact them by email or leave a voicemail. If I apply for other positions that I feel I'm a good fit with the same recruiting company I don't get contacted. Now I have a bunch of small recruiting companies calling me on a daily basis and I'm starting to ignore most of them. While I've had decent luck getting interviews from companies, I'd say at least 80% of IT jobs in this area that interest me are recruiters, the past few weeks it's near 100%

Should I just give up on them or is there something I'm missing or doing wrong?

Third party recruiters are playing a numbers game. I got contacted today about a Database Analyst job from a third party recruiter. She thought I was a great fit. She must have really dug into my background to find that one class I did on Databases in college because my Resume, nor my LinkedIn even hints that I know anything about Database Analysis. Oh and just for clarification this wasn't an entry level position either. I'm almost to the point where if they aren't corporate recruiters i'm not going to talk to them.

Strange I received a mysql dba from a recruiter today it also required .net experience. All I have on my resume is perform simple sql sfw queries. That hardly makes me eligible for a dba. Also received 2 deployment specialist positions, each required 5+ years of sql experience and software development experience. That was all I received today so I get a day off tomorrow morning from calling recruiters back.

It's as if they search resume keywords and send out generic emails without reading the resume. 1 of them even called me saying I'd be a great fit.

I get jobs sent to me all the time that either don't match my experience or I don't have the amount of years required but somehow I always "have an amazing background and would be a great fit". The recruiters in the twin cities are terrible, I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I screen all my calls now and will only call back the ones that tell me something about the position, and even then I feel as though I'm wasting my time because I know that in a week I'll never hear back from this person. Like Robertf969, I really only deal with corporate recruiters now.

I'm getting to that point too. It's an hour or two a day I could use for something else like studying. It's kind of surprising some have good luck with recruiters.

When I moved to New Zealand I was facing the same problem. I sent over 70 CVs out and was invited to a couple of interviews. However, none of the recruiters passed my CV through to the company. Actually, one did but she didn't check my visa status and I couldn't take that job as I wasn't a resident. Just three times, I was interviewed by the company and guess what, I got 2 of those 3 jobs. However, most of the jobs web sites over here are full of recruitment agencies ads only.

I've had an aggravating few months like this too. I frequently get calls from many different states with some indian sounding foreigner on the other end of the phone. "Good morning sir, my name is William.....". Don't give me that BS. Your name is Hadji Abdul-Alak Ben Salami, or something like that. And it's always the same thing, they have an IT job in my area for me to apply to. When one of these jobs comes available, I often get several calls a day from out of state recruiters trying to place me in the job. And NOT ONCE has any of these foreigner temp agencies ever gotten me so much as a single interview!

I look at it as though they are trying to steal opportunities from local agencies, (not that I feel any loyalty to ANY temp agency), and out of sheer principle, I sometimes hang up on them or tell them I am working somewhere and not to call back.

Now and then, they start wanting me to tell them about my work history, and I ask them if they have my resume there. Then they say yes, and I tell them to read it, that's what I made it for!

I can't wait to hit the lottery and quit this work BS altogether.

That's pretty much how I feel about Dice. Then each recruiting agency has a different advertisement for what ends up being the same position.
