I interviewed like 2-3 years ago for an amazon Systems Admin position and I have to say it was one of the worst interviews I've had in my life.
I dont know if they had already chosen their candidate or what but the questions were just dumb and bad.
A lot of google questions, like what is the current http version or what DNS means.
A lot of "define this" question instead of how it works or show us.
I would ask about stuff and they would answer in 2-3 words sentences.
"How's the daily routine here? What is the main source of work, ticket system?" - Yeah, we have tickets.

It was followed by an interview with their human resources department, that one was fine.

I dont think your interview will be like that at all. The guys that interviewed me probably had someone already picked or were tired or something. Wish you luck.

I think I talked to one of their recruiters for a IT support/web server support position in Northern VA area last year and they refused to tell me the salary range so that was the end of the conversation right then and there, o well lamo !

I was also contacted by one of their recruiters. I never asked for salary, but she did mention its very competitive. Its Amazon, so salary must not be that bad...at-least i hope so. lol

I was hired on as an "IT Support Engineer" after a phone interview and face-to-face. I actually met the guy who came up with the interview questions for the IT Support positions while I was in training. There is a list of standard questions that everyone who interviews is required to ask. I pretty much "aced" the interview from what I was later told in training. That being said, I didn't last more than a year. I wish I could say that is unusual, but that is par for the course. A majority of people at Amazon don't last more than a year... I can honestly say, it was the worst IT Job I've ever had. It's no hyperbole to say it's where over achievers go to feel bad about themselves. In retrospect, I should have known by examining their core values:

"Are Right, A Lot" - When everyone thinks their right, a nobody is wrong, it causes conflict which leads to to next value
"Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit" - Basically you have to fight for everything
"Vocally Self Critical" - Tell yourself your not good enough
"Insist on the Highest Standards" - Everyone insists but no one can realistically meet the standard
"Frugality" - You have to do everything on shoe-string budget

I cannot stress enough- pass on this one.

Check it out closely before taking.
i just read something recently in the news about Amazon and former employee was not happy with them.
make sure not a professional sweat shop. Just google, it was recent news.
maybe it depends on which division you would work at and your immediate management also.

Essentially, your best will never be good enough because it's a moving bar... You either burn out trying, or get pushed out for not trying hard enough. Current Amazonian?

I would not recommend working for them. They are a sweat shop and treat their employees terrible. I work with many former employees of theirs and nothing but complaints.

I'm surprised that this article didn't come up and caused quite a stir with Amazon.

Wow I recently got contacted for a phone interview with them within the next two weeks. Good thing I decided to do some digging (& knowing such knowledgeable people here) first. I guess I should do the interview anyways and see how far I get
