If I purchased a Cisco 1720 router would that IOS be compatible with my two 2501 routers? What I mean is will I be able to do all the required labs with this model ?

Humper Member Posts: 647From what I was told, the 1720 is the next step up from the 2500 series routers. This came from a CCNP at work. I know that the 1720 is a 10/100Mb router, which is a big bonus! Now working full time!

If you are using an IP Plus version (is) you probably have all you'll need for the CCNA. The Enterprise Plus (js) will work also, and carry you into the CCNP. Eventually you might want a feature set that includes encryption, IPSec, firewall, ids, etc... But it will also depend on how much memory you have (DRAM to run and Flash to store images).
Do a show version on all your routers to see your system image names and memory available. The image name should give you an indication of the feature set and version/revision level.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -

mikej412 Member Posts: 10,086 ■■■■■■■■■■Hum, the 2514 with the -d- has IP/IPX/AT/DEC and version 12.0(26)
The 1720s with the -ny- has IP/IPX and your newest version.
And the 2501 has with the -i- has the IP feature set but an old 11 version.
Yep, they will talk (once connected and configured properly).
Make sure you back up the old images, just in case. And do a show flash to check the image sizes and make sure you have enough flash memory available.:mike: Cisco Certifications -- Collect the Entire Set! -
Humper Member Posts: 647You would suggest upgrading to the 12.0(26) version for the 2505?
Do you happen to know if the 2500 series support PAT?
As well can you show me the link where you are reading this information?
IS this the page?
