Commute Time

I currently commute 24 minutes one way for my current job, but I'm entertaining another job that will add on 10 more minutes to my commute one way (Assuming good traffic and no accidents/acclimate weather). There will be opportunity to work from home some days. I would also be making +15K more a year. To me it sounds like the extra commute would be worth it? It's basically all highway and I would try to avoid rush hour times. What is your guy's opinion?

I would easily add an extra 20 minutes to my day for that amount of extra income without a second thought. Go for it! -
markulous Member Posts: 2,394 ■■■■■■■■□□Not even a debate in my mind. What's another 10 minutes? Or is this just a sick bragging thread?

cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 ModI love how this guy uses songs as a unit of measurement. Brilliant! Seriously, sounds like a good deal. I say do it.

inverse_one Member Posts: 38 ■■■□□□□□□□Just in case you guys are wondering, I'm currently working as a Technical Support Engineer in the network security business (Making 64.5K a year). I have a good previous co-worker who notified me they have an opening in his company/department as an IT Security Administrator (Making around 81K a year). Hes been giving good recommendations about me and will present my resume to the hiring manager. Sounds like the company is much better even though it's smaller. I never have commuted that long (34 min), so I wanted to know what you guys thought.

Yikes! I've got a move coming up for my family that will increase my commute time and I was worried about the extra time, but I'm going from fifteen minutes to approx 45 minutes to an hour... If you can do this... an hour is NOTHING!2017 Goals: 70-411 [X], 74-409 [X], 70-533 [X], VCP5-DCV [], LX0-103 [], LX0-104 []

guy9 Banned Posts: 59 ■■□□□□□□□□I drive about 35-45 minutes to work depending on the traffic and if I am speeding or not. I will drive anything up to an hour .. You can always find a new job closer, it's not always that easy making more money. Either you want money or convenience. I will always choose money.

Params7 Member Posts: 254For an internship in college I used to commute 1 hour 30 minutes (I would drive all the way from South Jersey to Reading, PA). Doing it again I would have moved closer to the office.

NetworkNewb Member Posts: 3,298 ■■■■■■■■■□I used to drive an hour to an hour and a half one way, to and from work. Usually the hour and a half was the way home... Got my most recent job a little more than a year ago and is about 15-20 minute drive each way. Feel soooo much better when I get home now.
But as far as your 10 more minutes each day for 15k more... I'd take it in a heartbeat. Good luck on getting the position! -

beads Member Posts: 1,533 ■■■■■■■■■□Commute is 32 miles. First third is through heavy Chicago traffic. Eighteen highway and the rest suburban traffic. Time is 75-90 minutes average but also highly dependent on the firm wishes of various Departments of Transportation, Streets and Sanitation and more than a few roadside beggars.
10 minutes? It takes 10 minutes to get out of my neighborhood!

Fulcrum45 Member Posts: 621 ■■■■■□□□□□I'm typically facing anywhere between 45min- 1hr. For an extra $15k I would easily add another 10-20 minutes to it, no sweat.

UnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,570 ModI tried both commuting using public transport and driving etc....I didn't know how much stress my 40minutes drive commute was adding to my life. Now I try to minimise my commute time as much as possible. Using public transport, I use the time to meditate, read, listen to music. Time not wasted and definitely not spent stressing.
