My LAN need advice

OK,

So I am going for my CCNA, I purchased routersim to do the basic routers & switch configurations on...

Right now I am working in a networking department, and they have been giving me some old routers, I have the following.

2- Cisco 1720's
1- Cisco 2505
1- Cisco 2514
2- Cisco 2912-XL-EN

IOS Versions:

Here is my plan, I want to setup my own network. I would like my network to be connected to the school residence internet, I am hoping that will work. I hope to do this by placing my 2514 at the front, by using PAT. Then have the other two routers behind the 2514. Behind the 1720's I'd like to have one of my cisco 2912's witha DHCP/DNS server running. I plan to connect all of the routers together (at this time) via serial cables..In the future I may buy a couple WIC ENET cards for my 1720's and plug them in to the 2514 via the AUI port. The school has a FULL class B 142.55.*.* ...

Does this sound do able? What are your opinions?

Which one is the first router? the 2514? If you have the 2514, do you have transceivers?

Where is the 2505? That has an 8 port hub or switch built in?

What interfaces do you currently have available on the 17xxs? They have 1 built-in Fast Etherent, right?

For lab purposes, you usually run it isolated so that you don't screw up any networks you are connected to (if their security is lax). That being said -- yeah, I use a 2514 to connect to my home network.

What are you using the DNS/DHCP servers for?

Sorry I got another 1700 today..The 1700's have a serial and one ethernet port..For the 1700 at the top I was going to get a 2 port WIC-ENET module..The 2 ports would be plugged into the 1700's, and the one 10/100 port built in would plug into the residence network. The other two 1700's would plug into my 2912 switches (I would have to buy a WIC ENET module for that as well)...The DHCP/DNS servers are just something for me to get some expierence with, that's all. The 2505 has 8 port hub built in...It's not being used at the moment....Actually I was thinking of taking out all the 2500s for the time being.

What do you think? Remember I would get an public (class b) IP from the reisdence for the first 1700 then PAT from there in.

That will work -- Once you have your basic config set on that first router, you should be free to do what ever you want or need to do with the other routers for your study. You'll want to have a tftp server to backup your configs for different senerios -- and so that you can recover quickly if you need to get back out the residence internet without have to grab the incoming cable from the first 17xx.

Now stop talk and start doing -- but don't blow anything up or melt anything down.
