certificates for network security engineer

i am in my second year in computer science , and i want to be a network security engineer , so what certificate should i get?.

i was going to take : CCNA R&S>CCNP R&S>CCNA security >>CCNP security and jncis-sec .

i want to know should i take this certificates or you recommended other certificates ?
and i want to know is there is a difference between IT security and network security engineer?

From my understanding, "IT Security" seems to be more along the lines of auditing, penetration testing, or even malware analysis. When I think of "network security engineer", I think of a firewall specialist which would be in line with the certs you're pursuing.

What are your interests about network security? If you tell us more details we could provide more help. The subject "network security" is just as vague as the job title "network security engineer" IMHO

Weird, the shift key works for the certs, hah. Anyway, to answer your question, titles and department names mean totally different things in different companies. At my work we have a network security dept, they handle firewalls, VPNs, authentication, etc. We also have an IT security dept that I work in, we do pretty much everything else security related but also advise the netsec team on configurations/logging/auditing/etc.

It's your 2nd year in a CS program, try to get into an internship in the field when you can, for many companies having actual security work experience is going to count for more than trying to get every cert you can. Also, as the last poster mentioned, try to narrow down what you want to do in the security field, there are different certs for different areas, then you can focus your studies on those.

to be clear, i dont know a lot about network security , here in Egypt we don't study anything related to network in high school and i will start my second year in faculty of computer science and until now i didn't take any course about network ,so my knowledge is close to 0% about that career , i just read that network engineer is the one how make the pcs connected to each others , and the security engineer make the pc safe from hacking and make maintenance and troubleshoot , that's all what i know i am really lost i don't know where to start and what is the difference between it security network security and network security administrator ? i really need some help.

Get your A+, Net +, Sec+ 1st and then get your CCNA from Cisco. You could get the CCNA: Security, but it's recommeneded you get the R&S 1st. Then after that, you should have about a years worth of certfications on your belt and go for a CASP or CISSP and get a security roled job. However the reasoning for the 3 CompTIA's is to find what avenue of security you want to do, security can go in many different directions in IT....
