in CCNP
Need to get my arse in gear and get on with this. Will start with switching as more useful to me in my current job.
Planning on buying the David Hucaby 300-115 book.
Ok, what is the minimum amount of switches I'll need to buy on Ebay?
Search for CCNP labs and most switches are 2950's. Are these suitable?
Or do I need 3550's? Or something else?
Thanks.

networker050184 Mod Posts: 11,962 ModFor CCNP I'd go 3550 minimum for a couple switches, some features you'll even need to go up to 3560/3750. A few 2950s for downstream STP speakers wouldn't be bad, but not your main platform. An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes which can be made.

down77 Member Posts: 1,009The 3550 can do most of the features, but 3560 or 3750 would be preferred. Keep your eye out as I picked up a few 3750G on ebay for almost nothing (80-110ea including shipping).CCIE Sec: Starting Nov 11

FastEthernet Member Posts: 26 ■□□□□□□□□□Thank you for those replies. Next question would be, will I need at least 1 router for the switch labbing? For VLAN config, etc? I suspect answer is yes.
What router(s) should I go for? -
10Linefigure Member Posts: 368 ■■■□□□□□□□VLAN configs can take place on the switches. You could use a router if you want, or multilayer switches. Having one or both of those options wouldnt hurt. Especially since you will need a few routers for the next test anyways, may as well get started on it now.CCNP R&S, Security+

Just wondering whether I should throw out my very old 2503 and 2610's?
