question about exam 640-801 - I just failed

Just back from test centre, no such happiness of passing A+ before.
The test was much more harder than my expected, score 612, too low.

I have 2 questions:
1. Is the selected questions relative with the survey before exam? I put myself in above intermidiate level.
2. How long should I wait before retaking it?

oh thats too bad im sure ull get it next time, as for ur first question i didnt pay much attention to the survey and the relation to the questions but i dont think so, and as for question number 2 i think its something like 5 working days if im not mistaken

better luck next time..its a hard exam, well the passing score is very high IMHO but i think its needed to test the real knowledge you possess

Actually I already worked in network field for more than 5 years, so I decided to prepare CCNA by self-study. I used book <<CCNA for Dummies>> from library, later on Cisco INTRO&ICND (Nov 2003) borrowed from a friend, and used the demo Boson NetSim. I took practice test better and better, and used NetSim to do some lab exercises. I prepared for 1 month.

Time gave me more trouble during this test. I felt comfortable before meeting simulator question, it wasn't difficult about OSPF. But I couldn't ping through before moving to next item, so I began troubleshooting ... , after over 10 minutes, I didn't resolve the problem, and continued. More questions about switch. They seemed difficult without real operating experience. There was one testlet with 5 question. I even couldn't clearly understand the last couple of questions before click for less time problem.

give me comment and suggestion about my prepare and test, please.

Sorry to hear you failed. I know its no comfort but a lot of people fail first time as they arent used to the type of exam and the high pass mark.
IMHO it a lot harder than any other Vedor exam I have taken.

The survey bears no outcome on your questions, otherwise everyone would put down that they Know nothing at all in hope to get child like questions.

The Retake time used to be 3 days, but I think it changed recently and may be 5 or 7 days. Regardless of this I think you will need a couple of weeks to prepare yourself properly, had you got an 840 or something similar I would have said go for a resit.

Time is another issue, one Tip I always give to people is use the time for your survey/demo etc to write down as much info as you can, one thing I always do is write down the subnets, so rather than work it out in my head I just glance at the maker board and theres my answer - a real time saver.

You have to nail those sims, fail those and you will almost certainy not cut the grade, They a weighted more heavily than standard questions. I recently go an answer on this on the Cisco Certification Forums from a CCIE mod, Sim are wieghted between 40-80 points. So thats potentially a lot of marks.

Have a read through old topics on here, theres lots of info out there.

Boson netsim whilst is not a bad package its not the same as real life, if you can practice on some real equipment or use an online lab like my own or free-labs.

Practice Tests, If your using Boson, be carefull they are very easy compared to the exam so you should be scoring 99/100 on it. I find the pracitce test that come with the Cisco press very good, you should have a CD on there is a test engine go through that
