There was a wave of articles and blogs over the summer about employee's experiences working at Amazon. The media covered almost all aspects of the company and all types of positions.

I think the general consensus was that it sucked. Or at least what I was reading pointed to that.

Wow, that would be surprising but I've never heard anything about them so I suppose it's not that shocking. Not every large tech company can be great to work for.

I've been working alongside amazon lately and what I've concluded is: the money and perks are good, the hours are long, not much upward mobility and often overworked. Other than that they seem pretty happy, it's likely a place to collect a nice paycheck and add a big name to your resume but I wouldn't expect a long career there if you have big aspirations.

Surprisingly Amazon's IT department hasn't met one deadline yet and it's caused many headaches. They've been very sloppy and I was looking forward to working with them.

I know someone that works for an Amazon subsidiary and is very happy with their job. This is a 4+ year subsidiary, so it's not like the Amazon culture hasn't permeated yet. Like any other company, each team is different. There are probably a large number of IT teams within Amazon. I can only imagine that each team is influenced heavily by the management style of their leadership.

I had an interview with them a few months ago. The interview process was far too long, the role wasn't that exciting and the pay wasn't that great either. I decided to take another job instead.

I normally go through the interview process just to gain experience, even if I don't plan on jumping to a new job. But my main goal in life is a good work/life balance, although the benefits and pay are nice, without time with my son it amounts to nothing. Basically told them no to the interview.

That's the only thing about Amazon. It seems like their culture carries a huge risk for burnout. Would be a great place to learn for 1-3 years before moving on, and thus probably feel like the pace at other subsequent jobs are slow. However, doesn't seem like their pay nor perks are as high as I would think they'd be. Which is unfortunate.

I was contacted by Amazon for an interview as a Network Technician but the hours/pay didn't match up with my needs of a balanced work/life role. Here is a link of reviews via Glassdoor for those curious of other employees experiences:

    Amazon.com Reviews | Glassdoor

I'm sure everyone that has worked there or had any interaction with them will be different on a person by person basis but the general consensus I see seems mixed from the various viewpoints from other members and my own personal experience.

I interviewed with them a couple of years ago. I didn't like what I heard during the process at all. An all day interview process as well.
I ended up turning down the job.

I was recently contacted about a Cloud Engineer position with them, so was a friend of mine. Seems they are hiring like crazy in that area.
