Question about Certificates

Hey Guy
Im having some trouble web browsing peacefully lately. I keep getting prompted to install certificates everytime i try to go to msn, google, or gmail. I am using both IE6 and firfox and they both keep asking me everytime i visit. I am telling it to install the certificate everytime and it seems not to do any good. Also, how can i tell if these are certificates from who they say they are? (not sure if it is possible for someone to be gathering info from me by having me use the wrong certificate)
any help would be apprciated as i am starting to get worried because one of my email accounts in msn is also telling me that i was trying to reset me password.
