Taking Security + Nov. 19

Hello, new member to the forum. I work on a help desk as a support analyst.

I have CompTIA A+, and Network +.

I'm taking the Security + exam November 19th.

I have read Logical Operations Choice. I don't like the book much, because it has labs in the end of chapter activities that I don't have access to. I also have Professor Messor SYS-301 **** sheet.

This week or next I'm going to take a Transcender practice exam.

Always willing to take advice or direction. Future goals lie in security or network administration.

Any advice from the forum members how I can be most successful?

Just wanting to chime in as I have been reading the posts!

Passed the Security +!! Now have the CompTIA trio

First of all, good luck on the Sec+ exam (you're taking it on my birthday icon_surprised.gif).

I'm currently studying for the Sec+ exam too, after completing my A+ and Net+ exams. From my previous 2 exams, what I have found helpful is the Professor Messers videos. He goes into a lot of detail and has all of his videos laid out in the same syllabus as the actual exam. I went through each one and made notes. What I then did was download the CompTIA objectives for the exam I was doing and match my notes/make additional notes to each category.

I studied each section and memorized the facts. When I felt I was ready, I used sites like MeasureUp.com and Skillset.com to take practice tests and see what level I was at. If I got questions wrong, I would go back and study that particular topic, then retake with a new set of questions.

I only spent 3 weeks studying my A+ and Net+ each and passed them with this method. I'm doing the same on my Sec+ now and when I feel like I'm ready, will take the exam. I think practice questions are the last prep you need before the exam so you know where you're at.

    Good luck!

    Happy early birthday!

I used Professor Messor videos for the A+ its just the short length and amount of videos he has. I will watch his videos on my weaker topics. Right now these seem to be remembering flash card material like encryption types, etc.

That's impressive to spend only three weeks and pass those exams. I'm excited to be done with this CompTIA trio so I can decide what's next.
