How important is previous real life audit experience

Hello
I am planning on passing the CISA exam in December.
I have no previous IT audit experience.
Is this a real requirement for passing the exam or can I easily do without?

Just remember that if you pass the exam without experience, you will not be awarded the CISA designation until you gain the required experience.

I thought you were awarded the CISA depending on what you put on the form you sent to ISACA?

I started as an Auditor last February, after 20+ years in programming and easily passed the June exam. It can be done. I suggest you hit the questions database hard and pay extra attention to your lowest-scoring areas.

I'd say that being an auditor prior to ISACA's exams can work against you. This is due to an individuals belief in a "certain way" of doing things, opposed to ISACA's way. Stick to what you've studied and leave personal anecdotes at the door. :)
