i know i wont be doing coding at help desk but when i advance what fields are a lot of coding. and yes i will learn

Aside from that, IMO, learning to create solutions with code can make you invaluable in any IT position. As far as true need is concerned, I found that once I got comfortable programming, reasons to code made themselves obvious - and the amount of programming you can do is only limited by your ambition. -

paul78 Member Posts: 3,016 ■■■■■■■■■■Yup - assuming you don't want to be a software engineer or developer - Devops are would be a close second. But I may be biased but I think that the best DevOps people are those that came from software engineering or software development backgrounds.

TheFORCE Member Posts: 2,297 ■■■■■■■■□□In order to get into an IT position that is all about coding you need to have prior coding experience and you won't get that in a Helpdesk role.
Also i would advise againts having your Helpdesk run any code or script on your machines or network. Reason being, Helpdesk techs usually are your first level support with little experience and sometimes they don't know what a script does or how it affects the network.
We had a case a few years back were one of our Helpdesk techs wrote a script to ping all the machines on the network to find out which ones were not online. Needless to say our security guys picked up on all the unusual activity and went to talk to the guy. -
