VCP550 or VCP6

bym007bym007 Member Posts: 48 ■■□□□□□□□□
Hi all fine folks,

I am aiming to go for the VCP-DCV. I took the Stanly VCP550 training as well earlier this year. Now I am beginning to start preparing for the exam. But a thought came across my mind, am I allowed to sit the VCP6 exam, or am I only allowed to go for VCP550 (as my class room training was only for VCP550) ?

Secondly what is more beneficial, to go for VCP6 or VCP550?
Thanks.

If I'm not mistaken if you take the ICM 5.5 course you have to take the VCP5.5 exam and then do the delta for VCP6.

I did Stanly's VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V5.1], and sat for the VCP550 last year. Don't see why you couldn't do the VCP6 with the ICM5.5. Just don't use it as a sole resource for the exam.

The 5.X course only allows you to register for the 5.X exams.

    Thanks for your replies.

As I understand my only option currently is to sit for VCP510 or VCP550 exam now, and upgrade later through VCP6 delta exam.
    Is that correct ?

You can take the What's New course, the v.6 Foundations exam, and then sit v6 for VCP-DCV if you would rather just go to v6, but that seems like the longer way around to me.

I am reading up on the vmware education website, and it seems that upgrading to v6 right now is indeed the long way around.
As per this graphic that I captured from here:

Other than the study path, is there any benefit to go for v6 right now, vs v550 ?
Just to add, I work as Pre-Sales Engineer, so I work on infrastructure designs.

If you got all pre-reqs sorted for VCP5, go for it. After that you got two years to renew, by which time there might be a 6.5 or 7.

I see you are VSP so you have access to partner central. Go for VCP5 and sit a few 6 related (free) courses on partner central, like the What's new, VTSP etc.

Makes the most sense to me, especially since you got the 5 training under your belt.

6 is different, so you might have a hard time to just study the differences so stick with it icon_wink.gif

Take the VCP550 exam to get your VCP5-DCV first, then if you want to you can take the 2v0-621D exam to also get VCP6-DCV.

    Thanks.

That sounds like the most logical way forward for me.
