1st. thanks to forum members for posting their positive and less positive ( fail) experiences & tips motivating others on the journey to success.
here is my small contribution. I registered this forum a year ago, starting to contemplate best approach and tactics on the road to CISSP. Of course learning is the best and hardest approach. dropped out of learning mode after a weeks browsing through literature. So two months ago I ve decided to give It a try with a colleague from from work . (competition and buddy learning/poking is great). Imagine the embarrassment if only one passed? WE both passed. His approach was ONLY CBK ISC2 fourth edition. Real thorough read through. No skipping. 3 last day for practice questions. I was not into this “put all of your eggs into one basket” scheme.
Here are some “soft” tips of mine. Get a good night sleep. If you are commuting to test center, + 6 hours of exam.. you will appreciate every single atom of concentration left. Cramming too much on last day Is also not advisable. Read once through Sunflower notes and CISSP combined notes. Get a good breakfast. Expecting some lunch breaks? Forget it. When I left for my break the exam clock continued to flow. That was odd. But no point arguing. Get your food with yourself. No time to search for snacks. Get to testing center at least 30 min early.1 hour is great. Compose your thoughts. Check out the air. Environment. Try to chill. There was a enrolment procedure of approx. 10 minutes per candidate. Very strict; videotaped, 2x ID docs, nothing is allowed into test facility. I asked if I could take napkins. Sure. But ONE peace. (not package). OK. Now open it. I say: "what"? Open the napkin..hmm. looks legit. Keep it on the visible place for the cam. Roll up your sleeve, pull up your shirt, remove your watch. Phone? Forget it. Pen? Paper? Forget it. It will be provided 4 u. And accounted for. You must return them after. Need to go to the bathroom? Raise your arm. Exam leader will escort you out. Get ready for another “role up your sleeves, pants pockets, shirt. Etc routine.) Almost like prison brake, (dough no cavities search).
EXAM: a mile wide and an inch deep. So true. First abandon all “I AR so SMART hackr..Genius posture” Otherwise you will fail. Security is a service to business. If you are not working for a security vendor you are just a service.. you are not a center of universe. Think managerial. I must double stress that. When in doubt ,Don’t ever say “we do it like that at our houzz.” . rather be sure it is in line with Best practice. Maybe you are doing it wrong at your houzz J) Paste your progress. I was doing 50 questions per 47 to 60 minutes. So you have time for review. My biggest mistake, marking to many questions for reviews. I ended UP with 100+ Q to review in 70 minutes.. mistake. If I wasn’t 101% sure I marked it for review . Wrong approach. Thinking now about people who said they finished the test under 2hrs.. well…. It is doable;If you are not paying for exam out of your pocket. If you don’t care if you ll pass or not, if are trying to voodoo prove something to others, yourself? There Is no way anyone reading thoroughly through questions by question can do that. About test Q. tried everything available. Not a single question have I ever encountered before. (done them all) Concept is familiar. BEST LEAST MOST WORST. Someone said they are not trying to “sink” you. Every q really was in order. Learning concept, Myself I preferred to speed read through much as possible material. Sybex.CISSP.Certified.Information.Systems.Security.Professional.Study.Guide.4th.= Grreat CISSP practice 2250 questions=ok, but too much and seems like out of band.did about 200q . Had enough of that. CBT nuggets= I love that guy J is he on a happy pill? do it when you are too tired to read. , 3_Syngress.Eleventh.Hour.CISSP.Study.Guide.Nov.=start and + end with this book. First you will quickly see where you stand and on what areas you have to focus, For End..you will appreciate it after reading all through CBK guide 4th edition..(blah.. awfully written). Cybrery=registered, tried to figure out if the lecturer is a man or woman?! Gave up after seeing “its freeee (but pls buy some funny money cybrerypoints for real $). Aint goanna happen. So it’s a woman? J
