Is phone support taken seriously

Hello

I live in Vegas and have be studying for my A+. I interviewed at Asurion for a tech support job for mobile phones . I was offered the position. Once I get my A+ I would like to hopefully get a support job working with computers. My question is would a tech support job for smart phones be seen as serious when I apply for IT jobs later on. I would have to take a small paycut to take this job . But if in the long run its better for me in IT I'm willing to do it

What is your current job? It'd be taken more serious than nothing and the customer service aspect definitely wouldn't hurt. Tech wise probably not so much.

A friend of mine manages some Sprint stores around here. The tech support role is supposed to sell as well. Would the position you're taking be a sales/tech support or full blown support? What kind of things would you actually be doing? Anytime I've had phone issues I end up with a refurbished phone.

Support only i wouldn't be in a carrier store it would be a call center . From what I understand from the interview its mostly people stuck in airplane mode or they are unable to download apps due to storage issues

You'll gain soft skills but it's a position I wouldn't stick with very long. I'd decline and keep your current job while focusing on your A+ then apply for computer support positions. My experience with mobile devices is they get old really quick if you work with them consistently. A few hours was a struggle and it's unlikely to lead to computer support.

There isn't a huge difference in pay 35 cents . So I'll be fine money wise. I'm just wondering if it's worth it since I already have a good deal of customer service experience

Do you have a college degree in any field?
When do you plan on finishing the A+?

If you can't really take anything from the mobile device job and you don't mind your current job I'd prevent very short term employment on the resume.

No college yet I've been looking at WGU but it seems I need some IT exp before I'd be accepted .

I was studying for my 801 but now I guess I need do get a 901 book but I'm.wanting to get it before March

Definitely do it. My job just before my first IT job was a similar one. Basically what I did was I worked for this huge call center that provided support for a bank website. It gave me call center experience, customer support experience, as well as some basic troubleshooting experience. All that can help you get a Help Desk job.

On a side note, I got a phone call the other from that same company's actual IT department asking us for help. Kinda funny I thought. I tried getting into their IT department but couldn't and now they're asking me for help just 2 years later.

If you dedicate yourself to improvement, you will be fine. A friend of mine came to work here from the Verizon store. While here, he set up a home lab and learned VMWare inside and out. He was recruited by a company in Silicon Valley and is now a senior implementation engineer. He works on virtualization products, R/S, firewalls, etc. Literally 6 years ago he was a cell phone salesman. If you have an aptitude for tech and keep at it, you will eventually get your break, and then you can go very far with some dedication and hard work.

After alot of thinking I decided to take the job its a little less but its a good deal closer to my home so im sure I'll save on gas as well.
