On top of the recent VCAP announcements, VMware are also now indefinitely offering the "Cisco path" to VCP/VCAP/VCIX certifications.

Nice. I think it shows a good valid acknowledgement of the applicability of one to the other.
The two certification paths are certainly complementary, not separate
