I was more than a little happy when I was done My first professional certification ever!! I went through the first 10 questions and marked 5 for review and then figured I was in trouble... Then I only marked 5 more through the rest of the test, so I felt better at the end.
Study materials: Daily experience over the last year with Hyper-V and SCVMM, select sections of the MVA course where my day-to-day job didn't touch, glancing at the Veeam study guide, and small labbing of SCDPM
Study duration: 2 weeks, minus the work experience
Score: 778
# of questions: 48
SCOM tripped me up -- I don't handle SCOM config on a day to day basis and I underestimated it; I didn't study it at all. The MVA course doesn't do SCOM justice at all (part of the reason I didn't study it is because of how briefly they touched on SCOM); I would supplement the MVA course with a more in-depth SCOM or System Center course.
Now, to update my signature!

I hadn't heard of this exam until yesterday. I am wanting to go down the route of MCSA Server and then onto Private Cloud. I' just finished my CompTIA A+/Network+/Security+/Storage+ and just started studying for CCNA R&S. I start VMware vSphere SCC course next month and was looking at the MS equivalent when I came across 74-409 Hyper-V & SC cert. I really enjoyed my Storage+ learning and looking forward to VMWare so thinking this might be a good choice for me. I see on the MS VA site there is quite a lot of learning content.. would this be enough on it's own? What other resources are out there for this exam? I checked out CBT but doesn't seem to be anything. I search PluralSight and there are a few videos so will check these out also. Any advice on videos/books for this would be good. Thanks.2016 : CompTIA Network+ (Jan) [X], CompTIA Storage+ (Jan) [X], CompTIA Security+ (Feb) [X], Cisco ICND1 (Feb) [X], MS 70-410 (Mar) [X], Cisco ICND2 (Mar) [X], Juniper JNCIA-Junos (Apr) [ ], Amazon AWS CSA (Apr) [ ], VMWare VCP-DCV (May) [X], MS 70-409 (May) [X], MS 70-411+412 (May) [ ]

davelee212 Member Posts: 5 ■□□□□□□□□□I'm using this one book by John Savill.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mastering-Hyper-V-System-Center-Windows/dp/1118828186/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458333990&sr=8-1&keywords=hyper-v
Look him up on YouTube and you'll find he's also done a series of videos that follow the book so you can see demos of stuff he writes about in each chapter.
I'm also going through the Jumpstart for Server Virtualisation and Hyper-v at Microsoft Virtual Academy which are I'm finding really useful as well. Kind of like a sped up version of the usual 5 day courses you'd go and take for MS stuff

It's really good, gives plenty of details and the PowerShell provided is good too.
I have John's book too, but it doesn't seem as in-depth quite like Aidan's book. It's still good, and seems easier to read but not as technical.
I've also been watching the MVA videos and have a Hyper-V setup with a couple of VMs, which I'll be expanding tonight. Don't forget your PowerShell though as there are a lot available.
Also, don't forget the Veeam and Orin Thomas Study Guide (here) -

I'd like to know also! It's really difficult to try all the different system center components. -
