Well done. Join the club - I passed yesterday as well. Yes plenty of time to get MCSA Windows 8.1. It retires end July 2016. 70-687 exam was much easier than 70-680 in my opinion.

    Hello,
    thanks.
Actually i have the 70-680 Exam.
The Way to MCSA Win 8 is: 70-680 + 70-685 = MCITP Enterprise Desktop Support Technician (MCITP EDST)
And MCITP EDST + Exam 689 = MCSA Win 8
    Is this correct?

    And MCSA Win 8 + 70-697 = MCSA Win 10?
    Is this correct too?

    Yes. That path will work.

There is also the option of 70-680 + 70-686 = MCITP EDA and MCITP EDA + 689 = MCSA Win 8
Just 70-697 give MCSA Win 10, you don't need MCSA Win 8 first.

I asked microsoft last week, and they said if you pass 680 and 685 you can do the 689 and get the Windows 8 MCSA.

Congrats on both passes btw! What did you use to study for the 685?

I literally asked them last week and they said I could! I haven't passed 685 yet. I don't know why they have so much trouble coming to a consensus with things.

After a painful conversation with microsoft I have found this link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/learning/mcsa-windows-8-certification.aspx

Which suggests you can upgrade to MCSA:8 with 685 or 686 alone.

The rep has also just confirmed this to me.

Jarusel: Having checked your transcript, the certification that you have obtained when you took exam 680 is MCTS: Windows 7, Configuration
Jarusel: To upgrade your certification to MCSA: Windows 8, these are the certifications you should have completed:
Jarusel: MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Administrator on Windows 7
Jarusel: MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician on Windows 7
    Jarusel: MCSA: Windows 7
me: mcsa windows 7 has been retired
me: where are you getting this information from?
    Jarusel: Please check the link;
    Jarusel: MCSA: Windows 8
Jarusel: The exams you need to complete are exams 687 and 688.
    me: no
me: if I do 'MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician on Windows 7'
me: will that qualify me for an upgrade?
me: I am sitting it on jan 12th
    Jarusel: Yes.
    Jarusel: I see.
Jarusel: Yes, once you have completed MCITP: Enterprise Desktop Support Technician on Windows 7 certification you are qualified for an upgrade.
    me: Thank you
    Jarusel: You're welcome.
Jarusel: Is there anything else I may assist you with?
me: no that's all, thank you

So if I am reading you correctly, one can take either windows 7 exam(either of the 3) and qualify to upgrade to win8 mcsa via one single 689 exam? Then, sit for 697 and earn the w10 mcsa?

When you are MCITP Desktop Administrator or Dekstop Technician - you can use the 70-689 to upgrade on MCSA Win 8!

I am new to the forum, first of all thank you all for providing valuable inputs.
I have completed Windows 7 exam 680 alone in Oct 2012. In transcript recently downloaded it is mentioned as MCP alone. Now I need to apply for job which requires MCSA qualification as on 1.11.2015. That’s all my situation. Now please help me with answer for below Qs.
    1. Am I MCSA certified or MCTS or MCP or MCITP ?
    2. If MCSA certified then am I eligible for applying the post ? (Considering the fact MCSA Windows 7 is retired)
    3. If I am not MCSA , then how to achieve MCSA server 2012 or MCSA windows 10 ? (Best path please).
Your earliest reply will help me preparing soon.. Thanks in advance to all..

You need two exams for Windows 7 MCSA. You are MCTS Configuring Windows 7.
However I would still apply for the role if you just have the MCTS qualification.
