Ospf uses protocol 89

What is protocol 89? Does it have anything to do with ip?

    Protocol is the transport protocol used by OSPF, much like RIP and EIGRP have theres as well. BGP is the only one who does not have its own transport and uses TCP for transport protocol.

    Protocol is the transport protocol used by OSPF, much like RIP and EIGRP have theres as well. BGP is the only one who does not have its own transport and uses TCP for transport protocol.

    RIP uses UDP.

    OSPF uses its own Transport Layer protocol, but I don't think I've ever seen a name for it like with EIGRP (which calls its Transport Layer Protocol RTP or Reliable Transport Protocol - not to be confused with the VoIP protocol with the same acronym).

    You're right Theodora. Mixed that up with IGRP.
