I'm not 100% sure if this should be in the WGU thread in general, or if it's more generic.
I am going to attend WGU this august after my associates is in hand
My current courses list from my community college:
BT 219
INTRO TO MICROSOFT WORD
HLTH 103
FUNDAMENTALS HLTH CARE
BT 223
PRESENTATION GRAPHICS
CL 101
COMPUTER LITERACY
Intro to Microsoft Word
Fundamentals of Healthcare
Presentation Graphics
Computer Literacy
English 98
Introduction to Information Technology
Introduction to Operating Systems (aka Windows 7 MTA)
Computer Network Fundamentals (aka Networking MTA/CCNA 1)
Computer Hardware and Technical Support (A+ prep class)
Linux Systems Administrator (Linux Essentials)
Introduction to Algebra (Math 80)
Network Application Support (Waste of time IMHO MDT 1 and Server 2012, not 2012R2)
Human Relations in the Workplace
Information Security Fundamentals (based on Security MTA and SSCP)
Server Admin Fundamentals (Server MTA)
Routing and Switching (CCNA 2/CCENT course)
This Quarter I have Math 91/92 and English 101.
So out of curiosity at first glance what would transfer to WGU directly?
Outside of college I am studying to take my Security+, MCP Windows 10, and CCENT to take and pass the exam. My employer is having take the full 200-120 to see where I'm at in general (fi I pass I pass, if not he can get my score sheet and see where I need more work) And then I have the Powershell in 30 lunches book coming in.
After Sec+, MCP Win 10. and CCENT, I'll be taking the LX0-103 exam, and my employer is going to have me challenge the CASP exam to see where I need to be focusing on to take it again to pass.
So by September I'll have at the LEAST. Security+, Windows 10 MCP, CCENT, A+, all my MTAs, and then at least the first exam of two for the Linux+.
I'll then be starting studies for the MCSA 70-410 exam and CCNA if I didn't already pass the 200-120.
I also went out of my way and bought the web development, and software development packages off groupon for udemy to study Java, C++, C#, JavaScript, Python, HTML5, CSS3, Ruby on Rails, and Lazs' and Chris Bryants CCNA classes.
In total 600hrs lifetime access.
So this said career wise, my boss doesn't care what route I go towards as long as I have some emphasis in cyber security. Which I'll also be taking CCNA Security exam before this summer since my job has me handle a lot of ASAs.
All this information out there, what would be the better degree path in WGU to pursue? Software Development, Cyber Security, Network Administration, or the generic IT degree?
I will have my Associates in Technical Arts Computer Information Systems this June.

PCTechLinc Member Posts: 646 ■■■■■■□□□□I really enjoyed the BS: Network Administration program, due to the MCSA Server 2008 and CCNA certs. However, IT Security is definitely where everything is going. I have a former student that is finishing the BS: IT Security from WGU, and he just got his CCNA Security and Linux+, of which I am jealous of both!Master of Business Administration in Information Technology Management - Western Governors University
