Hi all,

Just trying to see if anyone from England has contracted in Australia or Japan for a long period of time?

Wanting to know of any problems they ran into and the best places to view contracts available and basically anything that could help about your story :)

I am CCIE #46813 R&S, currently working as a solutions architect(current contract) but i have no desire to be specifically a SA abroad.

Thanks

Forum members nel and UnixGuy have done what you are seeking to do, they've been successful at it too (there's a third guy whose screen name I cannot remember). Key things to remember are: before you come - you need an unrestricted work rights visa or permanent residency. Very few companies would be willing to sponsor you for either. Australia is expensive so ensure you have considerable savings before you arrive on our shores. This said, with your credentials, I dont think it'd take long to find a contract job. I can hook you up with some hiring people too.

    Hi Essendon,

Thanks for the quick reply, that is excellent to hear!

with the unrestricted work rights visa - Is this a full migration? As i wanting to basically spend 6months->year working abroad just for a change of pace, not pick up sticks and move forever, so would this still be the same process?

No problem! No it's not a full migration (that's a permanent residency), it's only a visa that lets you work for any number of hours a week. I dont know the exact visa codes but take a look at https://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1 , simply plug in your details and it'll tell you which visa works best for you. Getting such a visa v/s a permanent residency is probably heaps different, the visa should be obtainable quite easily, the residency not so much.
