Hello,
I am looking into VCP6-DCV certificate and I have been looking around for inexpensive vmware authorized academy online. Does anyone know of a good online course that will make me eligible for the exam/certificate? thanks

UncleB Member Posts: 417You could use the Stanley Community College course - it works out at US$185 and gets you the proof of training you need to be able to book the exam.
There are links and some discussion in another thread here:
http://www.techexams.net/forums/virtualization/117368-stanly-cc.html
I signed up a month ago and got confirmation I am on the next round due to start on March 22nd. I like in the UK and will be attending the classes offline so it is about as cheap as it gets.
There may be other threads discussing it in more depth but it is worth considering.

@chappys4life exactly that was my next question. I read on the link @UncleB provided, they are offering 5.5 in March. Now I've to look into the life of 5.5. How long can I keep that certificate before it expires? (2 years?) -

@Iristheangel thanks for sharing that with us. Looks very interesting but is pluralsight an authorized vmware academy? Will check myself too but I love human interaction -
STANLY_CC Member Posts: 346 ■■■■□□□□□□Stanly Community College is an authorized VMware IT Academy, and the course we offer meets the education portion of the VM certification. However, we can offer the VMware course only to individuals and not as part of corporate training. Additionally, this course is designed for students who have not yet taken the VCP exam. Students who have already passed the exam would still have to retake the exam using the voucher given at the end of the course in order to receive full VMware VCP certification.
This course is offered under the umbrella of Continuing Education, and it is conducted online, including labs, in an asynchronous manner which basically means it is available to students 24/7. Students can study at their own pace provided you meet the minimum due dates set by the instructor. The courses are 8 weeks in length, and the current tuition & lab fee costs total $185. There is also an optional textbook in both hard copy and e-book formats available through our book store. We are currently teaching the 5.5 version of the VMware curriculum. We hope to move to the 6.0 version of the curriculum starting with our summer semester late May this year.
We enroll students in the VMware courses in the order in which they registered on our online wait list. If you have not added your information to this list please do so at https://vmware.stanly.edu/waitlist.php. We apologize for any delay, but as you can imagine these classes are extremely popular. We make every effort to accommodate all students in a timely manner.
At this time, due to evolving changes in higher education regulations, SCC is unable to serve all of the students that are interested in our courses or programs. SCC will no longer be able to offer distance education online programs or courses for students residing in Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. You can also visit our VMware page on our SCC website https://www.stanly.edu/future-students/continuing-education/technology-courses/vmware-vsphere-install-configure-manage. -

There you have it from the horses mouth - hold off for a bit longer and see if they offer the new course on schedule - I'm sure if you get in touch with them (via PM) then you can hear as soon as they know and then get yourself on the list.
Most installations out there are sill 5.5 so I'm happy to get trained up on this, pass the exam then study and sit a v6 exam of my choice.
To get the V6 cert you don't need to take another course and the exam material is significantly similar that you will have significantly reduced study time to go through the syllabus.
It does add the cost of the second exam and the training material mind you.
thanks

biosdisk Member Posts: 6 ■□□□□□□□□□There's always the NV track for those that have a CCNA certification. The great thing about the VCP-NV (Network Virtualization) track is that you can opt out of the required training course if you can show proof of a CCNA certification.

Very useful tips UncleB. I might be taking the 5.5 for now and will upgrade it later with the what's new training. Next couple months I do have some time so I'll go through pluralsight, books and stanley trainings and then take the test. thanks. -

Oh i wish knew this just a few months back. My CCNA just recently expired. Oh well, i'm more into server administration than networking but its good to know this. thanks -

They have a member of staff who helps a lot here with questions on the course - their work email is slewis8950@stanly.edu (it has already been posted on other threads on this site so I'm not releasing anything that isn't already in the public domain).
They are incredibly helpful but obviously busy so try to be specific with any requests.
thanks

Thats very helpful. I have written to them already. Hope they'll write back. So with stanely I will get training, class ID and exam voucher? And will that make me eligible to take the test and be certified? Also is this course also enough for the Foundation exam?
I just checked the VCP5-DCV blueprint and it doesn't say that it requires the foundation exam. Is it only for VCP6-DCV? -
UncleB Member Posts: 417If you take the Stanly CC course and sit the exam after this (and pass of course) then you are going to be VCP certified already in version 5.5, so look at the VMWare site track requirements for VCP6-DCV:
https://mylearn.vmware.com/mgrReg/plan.cfm?plan=64178&ui=www_cert#tab-migration
then you are an existing candidate on path 2 in the link:
Path 2: If you hold a VCP certification for any solution track that has not expired 1: Complete the VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization Exam
No need to do the foundations exam.
thanks

Thank you very much. I was able to resolve my issue with the registration office and I'm starting the course in the next two days.
I did find a few other colleges that offer an official VMware course, but they were all still on VCP5.5. There was one that offered VCP6, but it was not self-paced. Being in a non-US time zone, I could not be online at the required times. Long story short, I'm glad I worked out my registration issue and get to go with Stanly CC.2021 Goals: WGU BSCSIA, CEH, CHFI | 2022 Goals: WGU MSCSIA, AWS SAA, AWS Security Specialist
