UnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,570 Modyep definitely new stuff, but I'm more interested in the training material not the certificate. The training *seems* good, and there are random people on the page who reviewed it...

PJ_Sneakers Member Posts: 884 ■■■■■■□□□□I am going into DFIR at work and this class happened to pop up in my searches. I just did the Infosec Institute DF class for six times that much money, although Infosec included ISC2 vouchers as well.
The instructor for the Udemy course (Hussey) is an instructor at George Mason University. Other than that all I know is that the IFCI cert is about $100. So for $400 you can get a class and a cert. I'd assume the class would at least be valuable info.
Is it worth the ROI? Maybe, maybe not. I feel like it would be more valuable to me in my current position than many of my other certs though. Depends on circumstance, I guess. -

The flags in my head would be Udemy first off. Not to take heat for pointing at Udemy because there are a lot of people who know what they are talking about. It's the certification offering that's my problem. Other instructors like to make their own certification.
Next going to the actual website has the course material for the same price as Udemy which makes me think its the same thing.
The curriculum doesn't look bad but I would not spend $300 for it. Even CBT Nuggets at $99 isn't bad compared to this. I would look for books in the field before taking this class. Or find a Udemy coupon that knocks this down. Because that's what a lot of Udemy sales are. These articles and posts are my own opinion and do not reflect the view of my employer.

UnixGuy Mod Posts: 4,570 ModInteresting...I actually didn't even notice that that there was a certification associated with it...just thought the table of contents seems good

cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 ModI saw this on Forensic Focus the other day. Don't know the guy but the list of topics looks interesting. I giggled at the matrix they have at https://www.cybercrimeinvestigators.com/course showing how their course is more inclusive than EnCase, CCE, EC Council and SANS offerings. Not having checked out the material my uneducated opinion is that the course covers some very interesting areas and may be worth it for those who can't afford more expensive training. If anyone signs up please report back.

YFZblu Member Posts: 1,462 ■■■■■■■■□□I was highly annoyed at the buzzword-laden approach to the preview video. Generally speaking, that's a big red flag for me. Also, like cyberguypr said, comparing a series of these videos to SANS training is laughable - again, kind of a red flag.
That being said, I agree with OP the table of contents certainly has some worthwhile topics listed. What might be better is to do a more in-depth research project on each topic with publicly published materials. The only benefit to paying for this class, imo, is if a person specifically wants the certification.
