How long should I be an IT Helpdesk Intern?

Hey guys, haven't been here in a while. I used to post about help with my resume, yada yada. Now I have a nice internship that pays OK. I am learning a lot about AD, LDAP, etc.

Now I am a little stuck on what my next step should be. I got my associates degree finished while at this internship. This internship has been going on for about six months so far. I have no certifications.

I don't want to sound like some lost kid, but I dong know what my next step should be. Should I being going for certs? Should I go on for my bachelor's degree in computer science? Both? Neither? And what are some key things I should push my bosses to learn?

Thanks for any and all help!

I say both. Go for your bachelors and entry level certs like CCNA and security+.

What exactly is your AS degree in? I wouldn't pursue a Bachelors at this point unless the next company was going to pay for it. For certifications, I would be looking at Network+ or Security+. Those two should keep you busy for a while.

Numerous studies outline salary projections over one's career with regards to having a bachelors degree vs not having one. If anything, it gives you flexibility if you want to make a career switch down the line.

Join an IT group on Meetup.com in your area if there is one. The social networking is going to pay off big for you without spending a dime.

WGU gives you both a BS and certs. If you feel comfortable doing that while working, I'd absolutely recommend going that route.

Certs then bachelors. Work will usually pay for your bachelors. The certs will usually get you promoted.

WGU is a very good option. If I had to do it all over again I would seriously consider this option.
