Security - Transitions
SaSkiller
Hi all.
For those of you in Infosec who have transitioned from one technical area to another, how did you do it? By this I mean non management positions, and i'm wondering how you made your transition from SOC to pentester,IA, forensics, ect.
Thanks.

Tailor your CV to the role you want to go into. So if you want to move from a techie to non-tech well tone down your hardcore coding,BGP configuring, advance pentesting and promote your soft skills, auditing abilities etc. Good luck

Your boss should be discussing your desired career path with you at least annually and helping figure out how to get you down that path. Otherwise, figure out what you want to do and make it happen - download any free tools and master them in your spare time, watch lots of YouTube videos, sign up for the newsletters, find a few local guys who already do it on LinkedIn and ask them if you can pick their brain for more advice

If you're looking outside your existing company, the best thing to do is see if you can meet any of the certs/keywords the posting is looking for, and hope to land an interview. Since you'll be looking to move to an area you don't have experience in, you'll have to prove that you at least have the knowledge and ability to pick up hands on real quick and management may take a chance on you.

What type of stuff are you looking to get into? I have a position within my company that's 100% remote for someone with packet capture analysis exp, and has a little bit of programming experience. This position is similar to what they have over at Talos.
PM me and I can send you the details.

I've been interested in getting into Malware Analysis or pentesting.
That position certainly sounds interested, I will send you a PM.
