Default Gateway

Hi,

if I use a dumb L2 switch (non cisco) in which I CANNOT do

int vlan 1
description **default gateway**
ip add 192.168.0.1 255.255.255.0

Ok. What should I do to set the default gateway on a dumb L2 switch in which you cant console it?
Or will it flood to everyone else automatically?

Besides in some cases the gateway must be set for things to work.

That depends a lot on the features and default settings of the device. I would try to become familiar with the devices gui portal.

What's the make and model? What happens if you take the switch and connect it to a PC or a laptop with a cat-5 jumper and nothing else connected to the switch? Do you get an IP address? If you don't get an IP address, you might still get an IP for the default gateway. If that's the case, type the default gateway address into your browser

Ok. I will make my question simple. How do I get the default gateway of a L2 switch in which you cannot console or access? Just treat it as a hub.
