Finally passed my VCP exam today
Off to other certifications now - debating on upgrading my MCSA to 2012 or to try the CCNA.

Proverbs 6:6-11Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep, So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler And your need like an armed man. -
Essendon Member Posts: 4,546 ■■■■■■■■■■Congrats! Why stop just at the VCP? You certainly have the capability to go for the DCA, while you have the momentum (gained from the VCP) you should have a decent crack at it.

Lexluethar Member Posts: 516Thanks everyone. Essendon I had thought about going for that but i'm really up in the air at this point. I do need to upgrade my MCSA but like you said i have the knowledge fresh in my head from the VCP. I'll take a few weeks off regardless to regain my sanity then make the decision.

At this point, I'd say you should do two things: Upgrade your MCSA to 2012, and do the delta exam to upgrade your VCP to 6 (or go the more advanced path, as Essendon recommended.) If you're current on both technologies, you'll be very much sought-after by hiring managers (and recruiters.) Microsoft will release Windows Server 2016 very soon, so being up to date with the current MCSA will put you in a much better position to get in on the ground floor and do the 2016 beta upgrade exam. On the VMware end, a lot of companies are currently running vSphere 5.5, but many others are in the process of upgrading to vSphere 6, so certifications on both are good to have. The CCNA certification is pretty timeless, so there's never a bad time to pick it up, but the other two definitely benefit you right now.

Lexluethar Member Posts: 516Thanks slowhand - that's what i'm leaning towards. I would like to get my 2008 upgraded to 2012 before 2016 becomes mainstream (we already are testing it at work here).

Slowhand Mod Posts: 5,161 ModThe nice thing is that Microsoft has started linking related TechNet articles to the blueprints of many of their exams, so you don't necessarily need to worry about picking up a thick tome right away. Have a look at the 2012 upgrade exam page, if you expand the bullet-points that list each topic you'll see both a more detailed list of what's covered and links to recommended reading/labbing.

Lexluethar Member Posts: 516Yup i'm pretty familiar with MS exams. I've got it down to reading the MS Press book, create a study guide based off the blueprint and reading technet articles on the blueprint items.
I've heard the 417 is a beast though b/c it covers so much stuff. I have the MS Press book, i'll have to start cracking that open next month. Luckily i'm in a position at work where i'm responsible for VMware (so i get plenty of day-to-day experience to stay fresh) and I'm one of a handful of server admins that actually get into the thick of it with server configuration / troubleshooting. So things like DHCP, ADFS, DFS, ect are things we deal with all the time as a group.
