I wish it happened like that:

Phone is ringing. You picking up...

    - Are you looking for a job? (Heavy Indian accent)
    - No I'm not!

...short beeps indicating that the conversation is over.

But no, you have to wait until they are done with their pitch.

    - Hello, this is Rodumari Chandrashekaregowda calling you from Best Staffing Solutions Enterprise Agency based in New Jersey, may I speak to Leo?
    - You are speaking to him.
    - Hello, how are you doing today?
    - Fine, how are you.
    - Fabulous!!! Thanks for asking! I have a very good 1-month contract or contract-2-hire position with a top Fortune 500 company located in the middle of nowhere specializing in totally unrelated to your background industry with a very good culture and I think based on your resume that you can be a great fit!
    - Sorry, I'm not looking.

nice if at this point they accept it and say goodbye. But some continue pushing forward and trying to convince you that it may be a good fit...

I live here in Dallas and there is a position open in Plano TX for an information security analyst. Guess how many calls I have had about that job in the past 3 days. I counted up on my phone 55 calls mostly from Indian Recruiters in Illinois and New Jersey. That does not count the emails and text. I know the job is either with Dell, HP or Toyota Finance. The pay is in the 100K range on contract for 6 to 12 months maybe perm. I am not interested in it because I make way more than that and have a perm job. If someone is though I can gladly give you a contact that is American recruiting for it. Yeah I get these every day all day long especially when it is incident response related. Good luck on finding active IR guys looking for a job especially a contract. Most of us are not out of work and are not looking for a contract.

If you do not make your profile public that just means that employers AKA recruiters cannot search for you correct? But if I apply for jobs the employer can still see my resume right?

Yeah pretty much. It's not searchable, but shows only to jobs you apply to. Read the fine print on each site obviously.

First thing I did was take my phone number off of my resume and kept only my email on there. Second, I stopped using Monster and CareerBuilder a long time ago. That has cut most of it out. Now I still use LinkedIn, Indeed, and Dice. Dice is the only one that generates the crap recruiters (can't understand them, generic emails, contract to hire, or 3 month contract jobs, all of them across the country from where I'm at, and not paying much), but not too much. I only have reputable recruiters contact me either from LinkedIn or Indeed.

I agree with Iris though, it's great when you're trying to break into IT or are desperate, put your resume on all the sites including Monster, CareerBuilder, and Dice. You'll get blown up.

I cut the public stuff off of the sites and it has dropped off significantly. I should have been keeping track though...I'm sure if I was playing the "where is the job located" game, I'd be down to about a handful of states.

Really annoying. I'm looking to move to a new position but has to remove my resume from job sites because of this. I don't even know if submitting your resume to those positions really go to the company contact, most of the time they're from recruiting agencies. I get a lot of these calls but I won't work with a recruiter with no common sense.

I got 6-7 calls last week from Indian recruiters about the same state government job. I'm interested but I'm already working with a local company on it.

Yeah I get bombarded with like 5-10 a day if I leave my resume up on monster. I've gotten to the point where I just let them leave a voicemail, if they dont leave a voicemail I block them. If theyre foreigners I block them anyway.

Lots of scams it seems, "Hey give me your social and we'll put you in the list." Yeah... no.

Often times its a lowly recruiter with a $10-13/hr job.

I once kept getting a call from a female recruiter.... I was single at the time so I asked her to dinner. I was surprised that she said yes. Had a good dinner and she became a good friend and contact and actually helped me with my job search, and helped me with a job. I could tell she was not foreign though.....she moved to Cali a year ago icon_sad.gif

I get these types of calls all the time and now a days I just ignore them. I don't trust them and some of them can be kind of abusive. I'm thinking they get credited for a certain amount of calls and such. The google voice thing is a good idea.

People still use Careerbuilder and Monster? This isn't 2010 anymore. ;)

I always found them to be useless, inaccurate or just a feeding ground for recruiters. And versus just going directly to employers hiring, I think it is just lazy and waste of time.

There is a local "body shop" that outsources most of their recruiting positions to India. It is funny because they have LinkedIn profiles that claim they are local (same city). Well, I asked him if we could meet up... well... he sidestepped that. Probably not local.

It happens when I update my resume on Monster, Career builder, etc. I usually just ask them to send me an email with the job description.
