Got all my paperwork in and everything on target to start July 1st. Ended up with 97 credits to go ( Most of my certs were past the 5 year mark ) Hoping to finish in 18 months. If I can do it in 18 months, I should only be out of pocket about a grand (company education assistance)

what do you mean past 5 year mark? -
jcundiff Member Posts: 486 ■■■■□□□□□□Just exactly what I said... In order to get credit for certifications, they must have been earned in the last 5 years. Most of my CompTIA certs are from early 2000s (yeah I'm old and been doing this a long time lol)
My ITILv3 was 5 months out of date
However, due to the fact that I have been doing this a long time, I am hoping to move through a lot of stuff fairly quick"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work Hard" - Tim Notke -
Danielm7 Member Posts: 2,310 ■■■■■■■■□□Yep I had a ton of lost credit because of the 5 year rule, between IT/computer classes and expired certs I lost more credit than I had accepted. But, on the plus side I'm now done, which hopefully you can say in 18 months, good luck!

coyoterey Member Posts: 4 ■□□□□□□□□□I'm currently exactly halfway through my IT-Sec program with WGU. If you have a lot of experience in the world of IT this shouldn't be too hard of a program at all for you. I have close to zero real world experience and so far I've done 45 credits in my first term.

GSXR750K2 Member Posts: 323 ■■■■□□□□□□Same here, my A+ was over the five year mark by an eon or two when I applied to WGU for the IT-Sec program. Luckily I came in with all of my other certs current so that overlapped and gave me credit for the A+ courses and more.
You should be able to do it in 18 months if your family/work dynamic allows the time. I started with 81 CU's remaining and finished in just short of 16 months, that includes a total of five goof-off months (no wife or kids here, just a low maintenance girlfriend).
Best of luck. -
jcundiff Member Posts: 486 ■■■■□□□□□□Interesting, didn't know about this 5 year rule.
"The list below includes certifications that may transfer into your program (scroll to the bottom of the page for specific program information). This selection is for your convenience only and does not represent a special endorsement. For transfer, certifications must have been earned within the last five years. Please speak to an Enrollment Counselor to determine if your certification will also meet the prerequisite for the IT programs as not all transferable certifications will meet this requirement.

yeah
Clm, i dont even remember at this point, i kew it was out of date so didnt even submit it

Had my meeting with my mentor today, went very well. Got my 1st courses assigned and enrolled, already took 2 preassessments and passed both b a significant margin. Hoping to have taken all 4 and be ready for post assessments as soon as my welcome kit gets here and I can schedule proctors. Can you tell I am just a little excited? :O :O :O"Hard Work Beats Talent When Talent Doesn't Work Hard" - Tim Notke -
