I applied as well. It would be really nice to get in on it as I am trying to transition more to that side of things. If not, I will still look into it. It is interesting that Cisco is putting a lot of effort into this - I wonder if they will push the track further than the associate level?

I was wondering the same thing until I read the Scholarship page. Kind of looks like they are trying to funnel a wider range of people into the CCIE Security

I hope they dont put too much emphasis on people with existing Cisco certifications because this would be a great way for people to get one.

The requirements look promising until the Military service requirement. I did participate in a number of classified military operations in Call of Duty, I wonder if that qualifies me.

Interesting opportunity. The application seems fairly rudimentary, though. You'd think they'd ask a lot more than they do.

I am going to guess that there is an additional step that will needed prior to the scholarship being awarded (verification of criteria) or so I would imagine.

Of course, the value of their "E-lead" course is likely significantly inflated and the classes may not be live. I have never taken an e-course through them before - so I can only speculate.

Id prefer if it was OnDemand. That way it can fit into more people's schedules. If they need a 3 month commitment during certain hours of the day, I can see that not working for a lot of people. People have to work, etc.

Sorry for bumping the thread. I got an email from Cisco regarding my application. It seems like the program is geared to prepare entrants for the CCNA Cyber Ops certification not CCIE Security.

Interested to know why they had such requirements and how it relates to their products or the DoD.

I'm still confused how they are going to validate I meet their requirements when they haven't asked me any questions outside of the application.

They then sent me an email saying once they validate my qualifications there will be an assesment exam before the program starts and they would contact me.

Do I just hope they stumble upon my LinkedIN? Or do they have access to CompTIA, Microsoft's certification database somehow?

I hope I get a chance at this, just so many unknowns right now.

They're going to send out something more thorough for people to go through in August. From there, I suppose they'll make the selections. I'm guessing the initial questionnaire was just to gauge interest.

Lol. They are going to mess around and let me get certified for the ccent on the 5th. Then I will meet all the qualifications.

There definitely seems to be a larger emphasis of Cyber Security roles in the very recent. I like that Cisco is getting behind it because they have strong teaching foundations among technology training. It definitely makes me consider learning more security concepts. I am not sure I would want to completely transition to a SOC role but could stand to learn some near stuff through this cert track.

They will be making all candidates go through a questionnaire process that will probably ask about current certifications and skills, followed by a small technical test of skills.

From there I think they will make their selections.

In my latest email they said that it will be 90 hours of work over the course of 3 months. So nothing to sneeze at, and it seems like they will expect you to be very serious about completing it.

I wonder what the determining factor will be between similar candidates. Sheer technical aptitude or a scholarship based on need?

Honestly, I think they are taking all people who pass the qualifications. I think the only determining factor is qualifications and prior knowledge. After that I believe they are letting everyone it.

I could be wrong, but when you read through the FAQs it seems like Cisco is using this as a starting point and plans to **** even more money into it over the next few years.

It would be awesome to get the opportunity. CCNA - RS,SEC, Cyber, Ind, Wireless, Cloud,DC,SP, Collaboration. Enter the nonagon.

The only thing im worried about at this point is wether they will have set times for training. That would exclude alot of people who have to work during the day and may only be able to attend training on the weekends or for a few hours at the end of day.

Since its on demand learning, I'm sure the times will be "at your own conveinance".

I of course cant find it now, BUT, I remember reading somewhere when this was first announced that it was on demand (IE: around your schedule). I believe its online material, videos, and then "access" to a mentor \ trainer. I think this access will consist of being able to email someone. At least that's the vibe I got. Then of course you will get your exam vouchers for you to use at your convenience as well (withing the 3 months of the start of the program)

I think I read that in an article announcing the program, but I cant find it now.

Will post it if I do.

I applied. Although I don't have any Cisco certs, I do have Cisco education through my school that I have attended; in partner with Cisco/Net Academy. I am planning on pursuing Masters in Cyber Security at my school so I hope this qualifies me. I am very interested in this.
