As a heads up to those still waiting for their cohort to start, Safari Books has the study guides as well as a video series for each exam. Since my cohort doesn't start until December, this is a good opportunity to get a jump on things and see what sort of content this cert covers.

Hello, short version of my story...hoping to break into Cyber Security in my retail company. I have 15 yrs in Leadership positions, currently Regional Leader in Supply Chain Loss Prevention. If you were in my shoes trying to get into the Cisco scholarship with no experience and knowing what you know now, which would you pursue first to just qualify for the Cisco Scholarship (hint: I'm looking for the path of least resistance)
Basic technical competency (possess one or more of the following):

• Cisco certification (Cisco CCENT certification or higher)
• Relevant industry certification [(ISC)2, CompTIA Security+, EC-Council, GIAC, ISACA]
• Cisco Networking Academy letter of completion (CCNA 1 and CCNA 2)
• Windows expertise: Microsoft (Microsoft Specialist, MCSA, MCSE), CompTIA (A+, Network+, Server+)
• Linux expertise: CompTIA (Linux+), Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certification, Linux Foundation (LFCS, LFCE), Red Hat (RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA), Oracle Linux (OCA, OCP)

I would go the CCNA R&S and Security+ route, to be honest. That is for starters. The SECFND is a general networking/security course, so the two certs I mentioned will prepare you well for the first exam. The SECOPS exam is different but they give you quite a bit to work with, though probably not enough to pass the exam.

I'm just now seeing this. I have a few questions, and I'm sure they've been answered already, but there are forty-eight pages here to sift through. So I apologize in advance for the repeat questions.

Is this open to anyone? It says it's for people that are planning a career in cybersecurity. What about people that already work in cybersecurity? It has the minimum requirements, but it doesn't list any maximum requirements.

How does this factor into taxes? Scholarships for anything other than a degree are taxable, so if the courses are worth a couple grand each, at three classes, that's six grand. Plus certification attempts on top of that. Is it accurate to say I'd be looking at almost two grand come tax time if I did this?

There are no maximum requirements. Application is open to anyone. Its free, there is no cost associated with it so you will not be taxed.

Well, passed with 930/1000 in 210-250 SECFND.

Network Concepts 88%
Security Concepts 100%
Cryptography 75%
Host-Based Analysis 100%
Security Monitoring 100%
Attack Methods 79%

I blame ambiguous wording for not getting a higher score. Seems to be a Cisco tradition.

Going to make sure I understand the exam objectives for the 210-255 SECOPS since it seems to be an unforgiving exam.

I really thing Cisco should have much more labs in their exams overall, what do you think?

I received an email on 8/30/2017 to re-acknowledge my interest in the program. I guess it has been about a year since I was initially accepted. In the email was a link to choose a different cohort so I selected the one for 9/24/2017. I'll see if I get moved to that one instead of having to wait until next year.

Passed SECOPS a while back. Not as hard as expected, maybe I have over study it. Scholarship material not enough. Need to study NIST documents

Yup, I rec'd the same email...pretty disappointed...I kept my original cohort due to having other certs in the middle of...screw'em, I don't need Cisco to advance my career.

I opened a ticket with support and they have since come back saying that I am still on the list and they're investigating why the email went out to people that were accepted on program, it was only meant for people that didn't get accepted into the program. So I'm still on the list to start soon. Happy out. Plus I just passed CCNA Security today (second attempt)

Received the same email the moment i read this thread. I was in the December slot but selected the 24 Sept slot thinking that I can start the course early. Hoping it's just a goof-up from Cisco's side.
