They may be an early innovator, but they didn't keep up with the times. They been losing market share for years. It's kinda sad, they turned down a 44 billion dollar offer from Microsoft in 2008, but agree to a 5 billion dollar buyout in 2016. Shows how far how fast the company has lost value.

Yahoo didnt learn from the past. In this day and age, a company must continue to reinvent itself or go out of business. Im surprised they are even worth that much.

Agreed, and that CEO marrissa mayer I thought was bad news from the beginning. From banning working from home (whether we agree with that or not), is jut bad managament. Yahoo is a deadbeast..but hey thanks Yahoo for all the Chess, Yahoo messengers...Yahoo mail (still using it).....and of course: GeoCities

I'm still peeved at Yahoo for killing off first GeoCities, and then Directories. Sure old relics of the internet past, but I'd love to have seen GeoCities get preserved since it was a nice view into what I felt was a more "personal" web.

I was never a yahoo person. Seemed to bring in malware, to many adds, also when they pushed the toolbar when you installed some driver or something. It will fail under Verizon, which is fine with me.

Hmm I forgot about Tumblr (which is successful)...also, I think Flickr is successful as well. Yahoo needed better leadership...Verizon is doing well, so who knows.

When Yahoo went public back in the 90's, they were one of the first tech companies to benefit from the huge stock valuations that later developed into the 'tech bubble' of the late 90's. I never understood where the value came from, aside from ad revenue. I used to use Yahoo for search engine until Google came on the scene, and I never really had any reason to use their services after that. So I guess I'm not surprised. They had close to 2 decades to make their case as the leader in providing any service & they failed to capitalize, imo. The only thing I can think of is the instant messenger, but that was like 10 years ago and it sort of faded into the background.
