How do company's like PluralSight and Lynda avoid legal problems? ?

How do company's like PluralSight and Lynda avoid legal problems?

What I mean by this, is PluralSight and Lynda show folks software and they use folks brand names in their videos.

How do they do this without being sued? I would think that showing Microsoft or VMWare software would violate user agreements and would violate copyright laws?

They almost surely have some kind of agreement(s) with the vendors to use their logos and specific products, and a handsome fee to go along with doing so. It's not really any different, albeit tremendously more complex, than the agreement we clicked "yes" on to use Cisco's logos when we got certified.

It would sort of explain why they (CBTN specifically) seem to drag their feet sometimes on new content...they may have to hash out the details for new products and the vendors may require a certain level of quality to ensure the instruction is on par with applicable exam guidelines.

I'm sure it keeps lawyers on both sides well employed.

I agree, I am sure its a bunch of legal business bullshit that goes on. That allows them to do such a thing.

Not near as bad as I thought it would be.

I started studying for the RHCSA recently. Although CBT Nuggets didn't have a Red Hat course tailored towards it, they DID have a "CentOS Administrator" course that was tailored towards the RHCSA's objectives. They also never mentioned the company Red Hat or showed any of their logos during the video course. I'm sure that was a licensing issue, where they didn't get permission from Red Hat to show their product.

I'm sure they get permission, in order to avoid legal issues.

I remember forums posts on the CBTN forums for YEARS asking for videos ... I always said - only reason I can imagine it never happens is licensing .. otherwise with so much interest it would have been silly not to publish a course.
