CCIE service provider (cisco virl) INE question

Hey guys I need some advice here,

Is it possible to setup virl on VMware workstation on a different machine and simply access virl via a web browser to do labs etc?

I was thinking it would be cheeper to buy a server off ebay than rebuild my PC. The server that I am looking at right now is Enterprise HP Proliant DL380 G7 2X 2 93GHz 8 Cores 128GB RAM 4X 450GB HDD 5711045451355 | eBay

Silly question but why run VMWare workstation instead of ESXi. You do have to register for the free license of ESXi and it has none of the extra functionality (like VMotion or HA) but at least it isn't running on top of Windows.

True but I am lazy thats why I decided on Windows but ill give the ESXi a try instead.
