Need advice on my current situation please!

So i am currently working as a "network engineer" and am underpaid.

I got a call yesterday, and am most likely getting offered a position with Cisco as an actual Jr. Network Engineer.

I want to take the job but i think i may be moving in 3 months because my wife was offered a position, and we are moving about 8 hours away for this most likely.

Would it be wrong to take the job so i can put it on my resume even though i know i will only be able to work it for like 3 months?

Or should i stick with my current role until we move?

I not sure how much 3 months would help your from a resume perspective. It would be different if it was 2 years or even a 1 year. 3 months isn't likely to help though. In fact it will probably hurt you more than anything, especially if it's not a contract position. For most people the rule of thumb is you should stay at an employer at least 1 year preferably 2 years.

Nope not worth it. 3 months is nothing on a resume.

I agree with the first two responses. You might run into a situation where prospective employers will look at the three months experience at Cisco and come to the conclusion that you either couldn't handle it or you were fired. Either way, it might make things really difficult for you long term.

I'm not 100% sure if I am moving or not and just in case we end up not going I don't want to pass up this job.

It would be an hour drive there and an hour back too which will also suck lol

I'm going to get her to find out for sure if we are going and then decide. It also pays 14k more a year than my current job

Doesn't really matter what it pays if you wind up moving. Like you said, first order of business is to find out if you're moving.

Also, don't underestimate the commute issues. I've seen so many times where people take a job with a long commute and ***** about it after and wind up hating the job because of it

If you do move, maybe see if Cisco has any openings in the area that you'll be moving to

That is an option. You can be upfront with your potential conundrum and see if there are some options for telecommuting etc. If it were me, it would come down to how bad I disliked my current employer, knowing there is a possibility of NOT moving. The added bonus is more money and working for a prestigious company. Of course, the downside is maybe having to move after 3 months and a commute. Is the commute an hour in heavy traffic or just an hour of drive time?

I currently commute about 40 minutes without traffic, so if I take this new job it would be about an hour or an hour and 15 without traffic.

Definitely need to figure out if we are moving, but you know women lol indecisive. I don't hate my current job but I am looking for, how should I put this, "more" I guess. I want to get paid more, and also with this new job I would be directly working with a team of Cisco network engineers and would have the opportunity to learn a lot from them, and then there is the difference in pay as well of course.
