If you want to work for the IT departament of an insurance company you need or will help a sales degree?
Makes no sense for the regular infraestructure or help desk IT guy. Will not harm but won't help that much IMO unless you r coding/patching financial software or doing some kind of BI or data warehousing where you need to have a decente understanding or
in detail the financial cycle of things.
For a PM or a manager that control budget or calculates budget could help more. If you have your own company will help as well. -

It helps you better understand the decisions companies make when developing budgets and allows you to help craft budget requests that include the necessary justifications for the expenditure requests. Now will it make every IT hiring manager stand up and take notice, no. Pursue it if that is what you are interested in. It definitely doesn't hurt and could help your career along, long term.
One area it may help you with is in the auditing arena. I have seen a few IT auditor jobs requesting either a finance or accounting background. The easiest thing to be in the world is you. The most difficult thing to be is what other people want you to be. Don't let them put you in that position. ~ Leo Buscaglia

ImYourOnlyDJ Member Posts: 180My degree is in finance and I felt that it helped me stand out against the competition (though I do work in the financial services industry). During interviews I made it a point to explain that before college I knew I had a strong technical background but wasn't as strong on the soft skills and business side which is why I decided to get a business degree followed by technical certifications. My degree has allowed me to have more intelligent conversations with those on the business side of things.
