I didn't have LinkedIn set up until just recently, so maybe I've been missing out. -
DatabaseHead Member Posts: 2,754 ■■■■■■■■■■By no means am I a Linkedin honk, but between LInkedIn and Indeed I had my best results, however........ my intro into IT was off of Monster so I still have a lot of good feelings and thoughts for them.

beads Member Posts: 1,533 ■■■■■■■■■□Hate to say it but any of the above works best for everyone and no one. Its more of a matter of feeling your way through what works best and often it depends on what site or what technique has been "hot". Used to be DICE was the only ticket in town then Monster now Indeed, et. al. I get contacted through LinkedIn too often for opportunities that have the appeal of sanitation engineer so I rarely pay much attention there and I am no devotee of the site myself.
Most of my consulting comes from having a seriously deep field of professional contacts that I can reach out to and say: Be on the lookout for this type of contract in this area. When people ask me where I live I say the "Midwest", certainly not where my house is located. House is just a fancy place for my mailbox to reside and a more convenient place for seasonal storage the rest of the year. Yeah, that's how I feel about being leashed to a city. Undesirable but I work in security not agriculture.
Some work better than others. YMMV? Dunno?

I obtained two my my jobs this way, one lasted for 15 years, another for 7 years so I really haven't worked for a lot of different companies, I did move up in the places i worked for by getting promoted within.DatabaseHead wrote: »Referred by a current employee at the company
This is how I landed my current role, I did apply for the position with HR, but it's an employee recommendation that got me an interview. When I worked as a contractor for the FAA, I had a recommendation from a friend to get me an interview for that job as well.Still searching for the corner in a round room. -
MeanDrunkR2D2 Member Posts: 899 ■■■■■□□□□□For my current role, I applied directly on the website. I brought up my contacts in the company during the interview which likely helped seal the deal. Also had high level contacts in other companies (Same industry) I had worked in previously put in recommendations about me to other high level employees in that company. That's why you never burn a bridge. You never know when someone you've impressed with prior work can help put in a good word for you to help seal the deal.

gumpware Member Posts: 13 ■■■□□□□□□□Current role: Former co-worker contacted me, pretty much out of the blue, about an opening that was a really good fit for me.
Previous role: Applied via Monster.com
Previous previous role: Answered the classifieds ad on local newspaper (yes, it was that long ago) -
cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 Mod1 job many moons ago was a friend who told me about the opening. Since 2000 every job I've had has been applying directly to something I found through Careerbuilder, Monster, or Indeed.

Applied for a job roughly an hour away from where I lived at the time, was contacted by their HR dept who asked if I would consider moving for a job for this company. They put me in contact with a recruiter who works in talent management etc.. but the position was in Colorado. Decided to try out over a skype interview and by Friday I had an offer and a decision to make. Decided to move to Colorado and three weeks later I was driving to Denver with mostly everything I owned. Currently at the same company and have been promoted twice this year. Soon to be Senior security engineer, best decision I have made was moving to Denver
