I'm starting to dread coming to work. there's always something to do but I wish it was more fulfilling and interesting. I tell myself even if I find another job (I do desktop support) I'll still hate it. How do you all keep motivation? I've been working here for 4 years (6 years overall in IT support.)

Chinook Member Posts: 206The long term answer is simple: Make changes to your career. Maybe you like IT but simply don't want to do the operational side of things? Desktop Support isn't the most rewarding gig out there. Is there any type of technology you like? If so, set goals to get into that side of the industry and go forth.

shochan Member Posts: 1,014 ■■■■■■■■□□Yeah, get into server work, networking support, or security. Plenty of other areas to get interested in. I was burnt out doing field work for over 11yrs and then decided to jump into IT security. This has revived my IT career because I was seriously ready to get out of it.CompTIA A+, Network+, i-Net+, MCP 70-210, CNA v5, Server+, Security+, Cloud+, CySA+, ISC² CC, ISC² SSCP

You are getting no fulfillment because you are not learning anything new. You have to get out of the helldesk job role and grow.Certs: CISSP, EnCE, OSCP, CRTP, eCTHPv2, eCPPT, eCIR, LFCS, CEH, SPLK-1002, SC-200, SC-300, AZ-900, AZ-500, VHL:Advanced+

Trucido Member Posts: 250 ■■□□□□□□□□Time to start looking for other opportunities. If you're like me and have 0 Certifications, think about what you want in your career and get the appropriate certifications. There are a TON of I.T Certifications in existence, each for their own role. Active Directory (and others) allow you to be an EUC/IAM person. The hundreds of Database certifications allow for many lucrative salaries. Info Sec is a great way to go, network engineering, system admin, ect ect, the list goes on and on. Find out what you want to do and work towards getting your foot in the door. After that the sky is the limit.2017 Certification Goals
