    Combo A:
routers are good. you'd prefer to have switches that can/do run the version 15 of the ios. None of those switches can. But, they are good enough for the ccna.

    Combo B:
you'd prefer to have 512mb of ram to run voice. But, they are good enough for the ccna
the 3550 is pretty old. cant do things like ssh or ipv6. but ok for the ccna.
the 3524 switches aren't good enough for the ccna
2950 switches are ok for the ccna. you'd prefer the c/g/t models as they run the enhanced feature set of the ios.
If your not doing voice someday, why pay for phones.
$350 is too much for out dated switches. especially if it is in US dollars.

4 serial wics will be good for the new ccna exam.

What combination of hardware would you recommend for the new CCNA and possibly for the CCNP that support iOS. 15.1?

    Budget: $1000

    routers
1841 smaller lighter so cheaper to ship
    2801/2811
2821/2851 bigger heavier so costs more to ship
    3825/3845 even bigger and heavier
need a 128mb cf card, at least advanced ip services feature set, and preferably 512mb of ram
for 1841, 64mb cf card and at least 256mb ram

    switches
2960 limited layer 3, good for ccna ok for ccnp access switches
want the lanbase ios feature set. it is for the models with a -L
can not change the feature that came with the switch.

3560 ts cant be the poe models
3560v2, 3750v2 can be the poe models
want the ipservices ios feature set. can put ipservices on a switch that came with ipbase feature set.

and newer and more expensive models
    3560G, 3750G, etc.

2 serial interfaces is probably ok for the ccna. 4 better. need 10 for ccnp
need rack mounts if you want to rack the equipment

ccna: 3x routers and 2x switches are good
the ccnp topology has 4x routers and 4x switches (2x with full layer 3 capability)

and if you have lots of cisco equipment an access server is nice to have

You can get all the ccnp cisco equipment for about $650. Then add a little for a rack and access server. And, you have a pretty nice ccnp lab for less than $900, maybe $800.

    Budget: $1000

For CCNP R+S ROUTE you'd need four 1900s or 2900s to run 15.2 or higher with the basic image. That would be about the $1000 budget even without cables or switches. It's much cheaper to get VIRL for routing. The 3560s are good enough for SWITCH. You can use just two 3560s and a couple of 2960s.

For CCNA R+S, you generally need 3 routers and 3 switches. So you could get 2x 2960s and 1x 3560 now, and then add another 3560 later.

However, if you aren't planning on doing CCNP soon, then it's all a bit moot, since it's likely they will revise the exams again which might need different equipment.
