Hey Experts!
Please help and let me know if this is a good build.
Routers:
1 x 3800 Series 3845 Router w/3845-MB VWIC-2MFT-T1 & 64 MB Card
2 x 2811
Switches:
4 x Cisco Catalyst WS-C2960-48TC-L
Should I add another 3845 or 2811 to have 4 switches and 4 Routers ?
Would you recommend adding maybe a L3 Switch or not really needed ?
Anything else that I should consider.
Appreciate all the help!

Thank you -
clarson Member Posts: 903 ■■■■□□□□□□for the 3845:
big and heavy, going to cost you alot to ship shipping one 3845 is only slightly less than shipping 3 2811.
the mft serial wic is ok to use, just need to configure it right.
to run version 15 of the ios with at least the advance ip services feature set, you will need a 128mb cf card.
256 mb ram is good enough, but 512 is preferred and needed for doing voice
never know what might be in the 3845 or removed from the previous owner. So might have some goodies or be stripped down.
you should get at least one other serial wic to be in one of the other routers for the ccna.
and for the ccnp, your going to need 10 serial interfaces.
the 2960s are excellent for the ccna. But, your going to need at least 2 layer 3 switches for the ccnp.
So, you would be better of with just 2 2960s and getting 2 layer 3 switches, now or later when doing the ccnp
3 routers and 2 switches are good for the ccna.
the ccnp topology has 4 routers and 4 switches. -
clarson Member Posts: 903 ■■■■□□□□□□the 3845 is a fine router to use. it is like a 2811 router but with 3x the expandability to add more network modules and wics. And, it has the infrastructure to support them. such as more slots (wasted space because you don't need any extra modules for the cisco exams), a bigger power supply ( each of these weighs 35 pounds), more memory (comes from cisco with 512mb ram), and a faster cpu, and bigger, louder fans. your getting a **** truck to go buy groceries.
But, free works for me. If it doesn't work out for you for some reason, you can always return it and purchase a 2811. -

clarson Member Posts: 903 ■■■■□□□□□□And, of course, you'd prefer to have version 15 of the ios on all of the equipment
and, ipservices feature set. or for the 2960's the lanbase feature set.
