Started to learn CCNA/CCENT

danieldand80danieldand80 Member Posts: 5 ■□□□□□□□□□
Hello guys,
My name is Daniel and I don't have prior knowledge in the IT industry. atm I am self-independent in the Internet Marketing industry.
Recently I have started to read about networking and I find that field interested, something I would be interested in doing on a daily-job basis.

I am now learning through CBT Nugget videos-
https://www.cbtnuggets.com/it-training/cisco-ccna-icnd1-100-105

Is it enough to learn through CBT Nugget videos or I need to combine it with a book? If yes, any recommendations?
Friend of mine is going to get me 2 switches and 2 routers to practice on. Any tips on how to practice the theoretical stuff?

Thanks!

    Hello!

Glad to hear you are interested in this wonderful field of Networking! There are many books out there for this exam. The two I would recommend and used myself are listed below. The single best one I would say is the Sybex one. After that I would recommend the Cisco Press book. Both are good and should def have several diff types of study material before sitting for any Cisco exam. ie Labs/videos/books/etc..

    Good Luck!

So I should pick one of them and study until I feel comfortable with the material?
    What about ICND2?

Both books never hurt lol. But I feel the Sybex book is a bit better personally. Everyone is different though. Then ICND-2 there is other books from the same publishers that follow that. I would do a good mix of videos books and most important LABS. Practicing the skills your learning through the other training methods is the most important part to me.

The best thing I can recommend is pick one and start reading. There are so many resources out there that you could spend a year deciding which ones to use. I ultimately used Videos followed by reading a book. I found that I was reading faster if I understood where the topic was headed.

Sybex is soo good for CCNA studies!
It is a shame Todd Lammle has never or will never release CCNP material.

The book comes in 2 part or single part soft cover. I went the two book method but boy i kept looking back at ccent chapters. so 1 part might be good and cheaper..

    Is included in that one?

Or I should purchase both of them?
I just want to order all I need because I want to do it right. I also dont live in the US and it will take about a week or two until it will arrive.

    Thanks guys!

If your budget allows, you may want to check out INE's CCNA/CCENT courses. www.ine.com

I purchased these two together (less to carry around initially)
    ICND1 Book, ICND2 Book

    versus the single ICND1+2 Book.

Like someone else else, pick up a book and start reading. If you don't understand it, ask on here! We're always happy to help out. I know that when I started CCNA I had A LOT of questions.

Also, thinking back, you don't really need any physical equipment per se. However, sometimes it helps with troubleshooting and just making the theory stick in your head. You can get away with just using GNS3.

    If I may,

Kevin Wallace of LiveLessons has some CCNA V2 material in video format that is indispensable. His way of explaining and the flow of subject matter from the beginning video to the last was a huge part of my own learning success. I also hear he's working on some CCNA V3 materials. LiveLessons can be hit or miss, but Kevin Wallace is great. To be fair and fully disclosing, I did go through the CBT nuggets with Jeremy also, and I read the Odom book. The Odom book is quite detailed, thorough, and dry. I used GNS3 for labbing and it's perfect for testing that real-world CLI knowledge at the CCNA level. One person on here suggested videos before books because it helps the reading move faster and smoother and I completely agree. In fact, that's how I study for all of my exams.

If you check out Udemy, I personally liked this one loud Cuban guy with a smartboard.
Lazaro is his name. But then again, I was living in Miami for 3 years, so his dialect and flow was absolutely perfect.

    hi,

I did my second pass of the 78 videos of Jeremy and its great material, i have only one gripe with the content and that is the introduction to subnetting. When you start to get into it watch these videos first:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMCwt8uwkI4&list=PLARoRmMW-Hhc3C1dvgmCFXTPF4SrESXxV&index=11

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhSnw23xP7Y&t=764s

then keep going with jeremy as you ll ease into it more rapidly. By the way dont skip any nugget as the material in it is far better. Its just the intro that made me write this

Lazaro Diaz? For a moment I thought you meant the "High paid Network Engineer in Today's Market" guy.
