What could be better than terminal?
You can get putty for Mac via the homebrew or macports projects. There's also the Java based port/clone of Putty - "Spackle", and possibly a "native" version running via Wine.
There's also vSSH, iTerm2, ZOC, JellyFiSSH...
Are there specific features you want or specific problems you have with terminal?

I want to change the color on telnet... background to be black and letter white.

You can do this with the terminal preferences. Pull down menu "Terminal", select "Preferences", click on "Settings" tab. There are options for changing the font, font colour under the "Text" tab, and under the "Window" tab, you can change the background colour.
There is also a preset called "Pro" which has white text on black background. If you double click the preset, it will open a new window with those settings. Or if you love the preset, you can make it the default by clicking the "Default" button at the bottom of the pane.
You can also make your own Profile, by clicking on the plus button at the bottom of the Profile pane, and then make that profile you default with the default button.

Yup. Terminal for OS X is pretty great.
iTerm 2 is pretty rad too.
In both you simply need to set profiles as OctalDump mentioned to change the appearances of the terminal.
