Silly question i know about cabling

When you say 1000baseT does this mean 1000mb = 1 gigabyte ? If that is the case then any word with the 1000 base i can safely say it it is gigabyte ethernet ?

No, network speeds are measured in bits while file sizes are measured in bytes, (remember, there are 8 bits in a byte.) 1000BaseT is a megabit connection; a megabyte is 1,000 kilobytes, which is 1,000 bytes of data.

I don't think this is correct.

The way I see it is...

1 Megabit = 1,000,000 (1 million)
10 Megabits = 10,000,000 (10 million)
100 Megabits = 100,000,000 (100 million)
1000 Megabit = 1,000,000,000 (1000 million)
1 Gigabit = 1,000,000,000 (1000 million)

So, 1000BASE-T = 1000 million bits per second, which is a 'Gigabit', not a 'Megabit'
