Windows Update on Win7 machine

This is driving me bonkers!!! Windows update is just sitting there doing nothing after several hours! I have searched long and hard and tried various "Fixes" But none have worked. So here I am asking you guys.

Any ideas?

I've heard of fixes, I just start it and let it run overnight. If it's still not done arter that I let it keep on running until it finishes. Is this a new install? What part of the update process is it stuck on?

Do a search for offline WSUS, install it and run it. Worked great for me a few weeks ago when I put a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new computer.

Do not do a restore. It is a windows update problem (borrowed from Reddit)

    Download Wsus

Before running open up a elevated command prompt.

    Type:

    net stop wuauserv

Set Wsus to reboot and recall and show file. Each time the PC reboots run the net stop command until you see the log file showing the update process has completed.
