WIC-E1NET Problem with 2610

netstatnetstat Member Posts: 65 ■■□□□□□□□□
Guys,

I have purchased a Cisco 2610 (2600 series) recently, that comes with 1 ethernet Port! I have managed to obtain an WIC-1ENET (10M/bit) card from work to test it with the router. For some reason the router refuses to see it, and gives me the following error.

Press RETURN to get started!

00:00:05: %PQUICC-1-UNKNOWN_WIC: PQUICC(0), WIC card has an unknown ID of 0x39
00:00:07: %LINK-3-UPDOWN: Interface Ethernet0/0, changed state to up

I have searched other sources on the net - including the Cisco web site, and all it says is that this error is due to running an IOS less than 12.2. Now i tried it with v12.2 and v12.3, and yet the same error has be displayed. The card is specifically designed for Cisco 1700 and 2600 - it even says it on the booket which comes with the Card! I ran out of ideas.. any one has another to try it out? At this point a router with one ethernet 10Mbit port is not what i call very useful!

Thanks ppl!

Paste the "sh ver" output from your router in this thread....

Where did u find info about the 2600 supporting the wic-1enet?

I was always under the impression that it was solely for the 1700 series.

the Ethernet WIC offers a cost-effective method for expanding the capability of the Cisco 1700 series router.

WIC-1ENET Interface Card Router Processor Requirements
The MPC 860 microprocessor (revision B5 or later) in the Cisco 1700 series router is required for using the WIC-1ENET card.

    and finally read this one

    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/cis2600/hw_inst/wic_inst/wic_doc/prepwanm.htm

As you can see the only platforms supporting the Wic-1ENET are

    WIC-1ENET
    Cisco 1721
    Cisco 1751
    Cisco 1760

Wildfire hit the nail on the head (I shoulda checked that). If you need just a single additional ethernet interface, you'll need a NM-1E:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_relevant_interfaces_and_modules.html

Although we do have some conflicting info from Cisco:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps259/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008007cb78.html#wp1023482

This is a 2600 hardware installation guide for WIC-4ESW Card AND WIC-1ENET Interface Card. Although the document itself mentions on 1700 series routers.....strange icon_confused.gif:

I'd be willing to bet it doesn't support it (especially since that card isn't even an option to select in the Cisco Software Advisor for the 2610 router).

    there goes the Show ver:

Since the manual says also for 2600 i thought it would work fine on it too- but on the other hand, the booklet is a collective manual of all wic cards- sooooo...... about the NM-1E: - i just think that is a little pricey! but i probably have to go for that!!

thanks for the help guys... much appreciated!

I apologize. I should have told you not to worry about posting the "sh ver". I was going to look up your IOS in the Software Advisor, but it won't do any good since the 2600 won't support that WIC.

heh... since i am searching for another solution, i am considering another module to purchase..

    NM-1E2W

    now check this out!

    http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/107/nm-e2w.pdf

First the doc says 2600 is supported than later on in that table, none apply to 2600s !!!!

    and something weird also here:

    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps274/products_tech_note09186a00800b1155.shtml

this router is gonna become a dust collector or a large paper weight!

nm1e2w will not work with the 2600's, if you want an extra ethernet you need nm-1e. Only others it supports are wan only such as nm-4a/s etc,

Why does this mean u cannot use the router, provided you are running 12.1 Plus or later the ehternet port supports 802.1Q and you can add WIC's to the onboard wic slots to add wan functionaity such as wic-1t
