I question where they are getting there figures from, if I do a job board search of all the cyber security openings (CISSP OR Security++OR GSEC OR OSCP OR GCIH OR GMON OR GPEN OR CEH OR CYBER) within 50 miles of Toms River (roughly all of new Jersey) I get 276 opening in the last 30 days, not 12,000. If I increase it to 100 miles, which would easy encompasses all of New York City and Philadelphia, that number jumps to only 1,800 openings. It's also important to note that recruiters often repost positions, the same job opening might be reposted by 6 different recruiters trying to fill one position. I do not deny there is a shortage of qualified workers for the cyber security field, but I question how big the shortage really is.

TechGromit, I wonder if those figures are over the course of a calendar year, rolling year or something like that. It states Jacksonville, FL has over 1500 openings and I can promise you that's not the case...

Edit: Just saw in the About section it states every year there is 128,000 openings for security analysts and 220,000 other security related positions. So maybe the figures you see are in fact based on a year.

If you click on the "i" on the Total Cybersecurity Job Openings graphic, it says its total job openings from July 2015 - June 2016

To equal 12,000 job opening in New Jersey, as the map indicates, there should be 1,000 opens a month and I came up with 276 opens in the last 30 days. Now it may be just the fact there isn't a lot of hiring over the holidays, but to make up for the shortfall, there should be well over a thousand openings a month. I also question weather or not they vetted the openings to verify that one job posting isn't repeated 5 times by different recruiters trying to fill the same opening. That alone would cut there estimate number of opening positions by 75% at least.

I do not think that this map differentiates between permanent and contract positions, which may make this a little misleading.

CO will continue for a little while at least to get a bit hotter. In the springs I know we're laying the ground work for the National Cybersecurity Intelligence Center along with some partnership with UCCS or something. Supposed to initially create like 400+ jobs, but as with anything gov related, most never tend to stay small for long before this

Yes, good point. The NCC will probably take root and grow quickly, or at least I hope so. Nice to meet a fellow CS person.
