Best/Recommended SharePoint resources?

At the 3 previous global financial firms I worked at, SharePoint was a huge thing for our team's intranet site, and data repository. At my current employer they just got started with it, and it's pretty crude in it's current implementation from both an aesthetic and functional standpoint. I'd love to offer to improve it and wouldn't mind being the point man for it either. I'd love to hear any recommended books and websites for improving my knowledge and skill set, and being able to implement a better design and also increase the functionality.

I'll take a look at those resources, thanks guys. I looked on MS' website but the stuff for the MCSE seem just oriented towards the infrastructure and implementation part. I'm looking more for help with design and functionality.
