Been working on my resume lately right before I get out the military. Was wondering if some of you guys can give me a critique and let me know what do you guys feel I qualify for. Not sure if I should be applying for help desk positions. Military IT doesn't give you much experience that translates for civilian world.

There's a lot of strong feelings out there about including "currently pursuing" under Certifications.

What I would suggest is something more concrete than "Pursuing currently". Are you taking classes? Have you read a book? Have you passed an exam, or booked an exam? Are there skills in those areas that you can list, eg "familiar with Cisco routers and switches, IOS version 12.x and 15.x"? Do you have a home lab? If so, what does it include? Have you completed any study projects, self interest, etc eg "Set up server with VMware, using VLANs to segregate data and management traffic"?

Overall it looks pretty solid. Thank you for your service to our country!

"In charge of supervising" doesn't read right to me. Isn't "in charge' and 'supervising' essentially the same thing? I would remove that whole line in the top summary and maybe put that as a bullet point. "Supervised Multiple LAN help desk technicians" or something along those lines.

Also, drop the pursuing part. You don't have it. I am pursuing a six pack too but if you saw all 250lbs of my frame you would laugh in my face. All joking aside, I interview and hire people in my current role, and I PERSONALLY ignore anything that isn't a concrete fact. If I need a CCNA, and you have a Network+ and pursuing your CCNA, you don't have a CCNA and I move on.

Based on your training and role, you have great skill. No need to add some buzz word certification you are pursing unless you've already obtained.

Good experience, nice layout. Solid resume. Work on quantifying your bullet points a bit more. How many servers were you responsible for? How many tickets did you close?

Put your high school education below your IT training, or just remove it completely—a HS diploma on your resume isn’t going to be an employer’s deciding factor on whether or not you get an interview.

I agree with other posters that you shouldn’t list certifications that you are pursuing on your resume. Mention them in your cover letter if you must. Also, how have you been working on military information systems without Sec+?
